DOCUTAH International Documentary Film Festival
Dixie State University and the City of St. George present the eighth annual DOCUTAH International Documentary Film Festival. This year’s festival boasts 64 films from 22 countries, five special events and DOCtalk sessions with the filmmakers themselves Thursday–Saturday. For information, click here.
“William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play (abridged)”
Brought to you by the same guys who starred in the PBS film version of “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged),” this highly-imaginative, vaudeville-infused comedy tells the not-quite factual (well, not at all factual) story of an ancient manuscript purported to be the first play by William Shakespeare. Using questionable scholarship and street-performer smarts, a trio of comic actors will throw themselves into a fast, funny, and frenzied festival of pure hilarity. “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”
Shakespeare’s luxurious tale of fairies, dreams, and moonlight, this popular comedy gets a new and exciting look when set in the art deco world of the Jazz Age. It is still true that “the course of true love never did run smooth,” and when the feuding king and queen of the fairies interfere in the couplings of mortals, the result is pure pandemonium and magical mayhem. “Shrek The Musical”
“Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek.” And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. “Newsies”
Set in New York City at the turn of the century, “Newsies” is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy, and leader of a ragged band of teenaged “newsies” who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right. “Mamma Mia!”
A mother. A daughter. Three possible dads. A trip down the aisle you’ll never forget. Writer Catherine Johnson’s sunny and funny tale unfolds on a Greek island paradise. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago. The storytelling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs propels this enchanting tale of love, laughter, and friendship, creating an unforgettable show with a large cast and non-stop laughs. Mamma Mia! “Thoroughly Modern Millie”
Millie Dillmount, sets out in search of a job and a wealthy potential husband. Things seem wonderful when she lands a job working for a rich boss she’d love to marry, but not everything is as it seems. Showing Thursdays–Saturdays through Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $17–$23. “Summer of Love” exhibit

Tyriq & Jamestown
Jamestown is an exciting R&B, funk, and dance band based out of Las Vegas. Jamestown was created by Mr. Tyriq Johnson who has been performing live in Las Vegas for the past 8 years. Free. BBQ Fest
The CasaBlanca BBQ Fest will fire up the streets of Mesquite Sept. 8–10 with award-winning barbecue competition teams, including Chicago BBQ Company, Texas Outlaw BBQ and Austin’s Texas Lightning BBQ. Vendors will also serve up mouthwatering ribs and other savory barbecue classics, alongside a beer garden serving craft beers and specialty liquor. Guests can also enjoy live entertainment, kid-friendly activities and other surprises to guarantee a flavorful weekend. Friday 1–7 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m.–7 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m.–5 p.m.

Utah Poet Laureate
Utah Poet Laureate Paisley Rekdal will give a literary lecture at the Canyon Community Center Friday at 7 p.m. Her work has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Amy Lowell Poetry Traveling Fellowship, a Civitella Ranieri Residency, an NEA Fellowship, Pushcart Prizes, the 2016 AWP Nonfiction Prize, and various state arts council awards. “Turn the Page”
The live “Turn The Page ” show brings that same energy and excitement to the stage as they faithfully reproduce all the Bob Seger classics that have made him a legend. Game Night at Toadz
Get your game face on! Game night is coming to Toadz every Friday featuring beer pong tournaments ($100 cash prize), trash can beer pong, corn hole, darts, and pool tables upstairs with many more games to choose from every week. Zion Canyon Farmers Market
The 2017 season is Saturdays May 6–Oct. 14, rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to noon on the lawn of the Bit and Spur Restaurant and across from the Switchback Grille and Holiday Inn Express. The market was developed to provide a place for local farmers, backyard growers, and producers to sell their goods directly to consumers, to educate the consumers about local farming and seasonal eating, to encourage and promote the use of locally grown farm products, and to enhance quality of life in southern Utah by providing a community activity that fosters social gathering and interaction. Zion Matrix
The third annual Zion Matrix live concert, “Love is the Answer,” with guest artist Akyanna will light up the night at the stunning outdoor O.C. Tanner Amphitheater.
