The City of Mesquite Animal Shelter
The City of Mesquite Animal Shelter is located at 795 Hardy Way and is open for adoptions Mondays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m. Please call (702) 346-7415 during these hours to speak to the front desk, or visit mesquiteanimalshelter.petfinder.com. Animal Control may be reached by phone or voicemail at (702) 346-5268. Adoption fees include spaying or neutering and a one-year rabies shot. Mesquite residents only receive one-year city pet licenses.
Noel
Noel came to shelter as a stray. She is about 1 year old and full of energy. She will need a home where she can get a lot of exercise. She needs all the basic training. She loves to play and be with people. She is doing well walking on a leash and knows the sit command. She is a great medium sized dog.
Best Friends Animal Sanctuary
Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is located five miles north of Kanab at 5001 Angel Canyon Road. All adoptable cats and dogs are spayed or neutered and up to date on vaccinations. Radar
Every time you see Radar, you can’t help but smile. He is about as ‘easy’ as they come, because he’s an all-around chill dude who is perfectly happy on walks, in the car or in a home. If you add in his striking blue eyes and soft coat, you have a perfect package. Radar was born in 2015. He prefers female doggie companions and has shown aggression toward cats in the past, so he cannot live with them. Radar’s back end is a little weak for being such a young dog. He’s on some joint supplements and low-grade pain meds to keep him happy and comfortable, but he doesn’t let this affect his zest for life. Radar came to the Sanctuary from a Best Friends No More Homeless Pets Network partner shelter, and he would love his own easygoing home.
McDreamy
Pixie
Pixie is a very vivacious shepherd mix who is just as beautiful on the outside as she is on the inside. She loves taking long walks, getting belly rubs and playing in the water. Although she can be picky about her doggie friends and bossy with other dogs at times, she loves playing with them once she’s been introduced properly and she gets to know them. Pixie tends to guard food, so precautions must be taken when feeding her or giving her treats. She can be a bit nervous when new people try to handle her too much, but she loves playing with people she knows. Pixie was born in 2014 and came to Best Friends from a rescue organization in Arizona. She would be a great addition to an active home.
Bear
Bear was rescued by a kind soul when a building manager was rounding up the feral colony. This big, mellow cat is not afraid of people, but you have to go to him first. Then he’ll give you head butts and tell you about his day. He is dominant with other cats. In addition to his big body, Bear has a slightly enlarged heart, but he does not require medication at this time. Born in 2010, Bear would love to open that big, fluffy heart of his all the way up to you.
Lucy
Lucy may be initially shy, but she warms up quickly and likes attention from people. With other cats, she keeps to herself and doesn’t engage. If another cat is aggressive toward her, she runs away and tries to hide. Born in 2014, she came from a Utah shelter. Lucy is incontinent. Her bladder has to be expressed and she needs occasional butt baths. She is very cooperative. In fact, she’s a total sweetheart and would make a great addition to a home with a person who is knowledgeable about her condition.
Blossom
Blossom is a little shy at first, but her sweetness comes out when she’s given time. She’s submissive with other cats and keeps to herself. Blossom was born in the spring of 2017 and found as a stray in a nearby national park. She’s young and in good health. She hides and is shy in new situations, but we just know she would flower into the sweetest lap cat if she was adopted by a quiet and patient person.

Mowgli
Mowgli might look serious but he’s really just a big goofy boy. He is truly a gentle giant. Mowgli is a 1-year-old Shar Pei mix and boy is he handsome. He hass got a big curly tail, tiny ears, and beautiful brindle markings. He has the sweetest demeanor and he loves people. He is great with kids and does well with other dogs. Sugar
Sugar got her name because she is as sweet as sugar! She’s a 3-year-old Australian Shepherd mix and she is a lot of fun. This girl loves to play fetch with balls, toys or ropes and she can be a little bossy when it comes to fetching, meaning if you’re outside you’re going to throw something for her to fetch! She’s a girl who knows what she wants and we love that about her. She also loves to go out for walks and adventures. Sophia
Sophia is a 2-year-old tabby. This sweet girl does best with other cats in her presence. All the boys have eyes for this doll. She loves to play and once she claims you as her human, you’re all hers. KitKat
This 10-year-old beauty recently lost her 81 old human and while she has been a bit sad, she is coming around and realizing she has the room in her heart to love another one. KitKat loves to make biscuits and is sweet as can be. She is very affectionate and really loves human interaction. Her idea of the purrfect life is a kind human, a warm lap and lots of love. Freddi
Freddi is 4 years old. She is the first one to tell anyone coming into the cat room that she is looking for her purrfect human and home. She is playful, sweet and loving. She is a gorgeous black cat who is very ready to find her forever home. She is vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. Because Animals Matter
Because Animals Matter is dedicated to reducing animal abuse and neglect through education. It offers fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped animals for adoption through a network of foster homes and the Because Animals Matter Center, a transition facility. It also welcomes volunteers for a variety of activities and needs foster families for animals awaiting their forever homes. Chuck
Chuck is a happy, loving boy who wants to be with his human all the time be it walking, on your lap, or sleeping. He is constantly tracking your location because he just wants to be near you. Chuck is approximately 4 years old and was surrendered when his human became sick and unable to care for him. He’s a great little walker and curious about his surroundings. Chuck seems to play well with other dogs close to his size but can be aggressive with larger dogs. A potential adopter who owns other dogs should arrange a meeting between Chuck and their dog to determine compatibility. Chuck should be in an adult only home. He does not have the patience to deal with children. Chuck would do best with an owner experienced with opinionated dogs. Nikita
Nikita is all pit bull: loyal, vigilant, and, most important, loving. She was rescued from certain death and is looking for the right family with whom to share her life and love. Nikita is a smaller pit (approximately 50 pounds) and is about 4 years old. She is a healthy, active, strong dog but will need daily prednisone (7.5 mg) for allergies, most probably for the rest of her life. Nikita always has a ball or a toy or a bone in her mouth and her tail is constantly going at warp speed. Nikita is working on her manners and is a very energetic girl who will benefit from consistent guidance and, perhaps, some training for comfortable walking and/or interaction with other dogs but is also happy laying at your feet. Nikita is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped house broken. She is most comfortable with male dogs (large and small) and children. She’s not good with female dogs or cats. Roger
Roger is a wonderfully sweet and happy dog. He was picked up as a stray and is estimated to be between 2 and 4 years of age. He is quite excited when he first meets you but settles after a short time and is a good walker. He is learning his manners and already sits nicely for a treat. He will learn quickly as he is food motivated and wants to please. He plays well with other dogs and is energetic as is typical of his age. Umchi
Umchi is an approximately 8-10 year old, neutered male, Old English sheepdog mix. He is a large breed dog weighing in at 75 lbs. (his ideal weight). Sadly, I do not know and have failed to find in research the meaning/origin of his name. Umchi is a wonderful, mellow guy who loves the outdoors. He is used to going on daily 40-60 mins walks though so would make a great hiking buddy. I would stress caution when allowing him off the leash for when he is interested in something he trots full speed ahead, be prepared to sprint after him. He is great with other dogs. Umchi is housetrained; in fact, he will let you know when he needs to go outside. He does have a bit of arthritis in the hips and spine but has good mobility which you’ll know if you have to sprint after him on a hike. Occasionally he will be slow to rise and he will sometimes require a boost when getting in and out of the car. He does have environmental allergies that are present year round. He was given a monthly Cytopoint/allergy injection which he has responded well to. Overall, Umchi is an independent guy; he will love you when you are there but may be in another room as he does like having his own space at times. He does adore affection but he is more likely to lie around the house and wait for you to come to him. He does not have a mean bone in his body.
