Three Corners Women’s Giving Circle 2018 grants help local women and girls

The Three Corners Women’s Giving Circle is delighted to announce its 2018 grants to five local nonprofit groups to bolster their work in helping women and girls help themselves. The five-year-old Three Corners Women’s Giving Circle has pooled contributions from its now nearly 90 members and is giving a total of $26,000 this year to Girls on the Run Southern Utah, the School of Life Foundation, the St. George Children’s Museum, Switchpoint Community Resource Center, and YWCA Utah.
“We are proud that together we can make a growing contribution to creative and meaningful programs for women and girls in our community,” said Stephanie Martini, the founder of Three Corners Women’s Giving Circle.
The grant to Girls on the Run Southern Utah will be used to expand a 10-week training and fitness program, emphasizing running, for more elementary and middle school girls. At the program’s completion, the girls will run a capstone 5K race. The grant uses running as a platform to teach empowering life skills.
The School of Life Foundation’s mission is to increase high school graduation rates, and the grant focuses on supporting girls who are at risk of dropping out.
The St. George Children’s Museum will join forces with the Girl Scouts of Utah to expand classes and opportunities for both Girl Scouts and other girls to support activities that would fulfill specific badge requirements. The curriculum is based on museum offerings in the areas of arts and culture, STEM concepts, physical fitness, and healthy lifestyles.
Switchpoint Community Resource Center will continue its “Women on the Move” project. Single women without children currently living in the Switchpoint homeless shelter are helped to access education and training opportunities to help them ultimately move into a more permanent, safe, and stable living situation.
YWCA Utah will promote women’s active engagement in elective office by holding the second Real Women Run training in southern Utah. Real Women Run is a collaborative nonpartisan initiative that began at YWCA Utah in 2011. Its aim is to empower women to participate fully in public life and civic leadership.
This year’s Three Corners Women’s Giving Circle’s total of $26,000 is more than double the grant amount offered in the organization’s first year, 2013–14, and over these first five years, the group’s total support for local women’s and girls’ initiatives in the three corners area (southern Utah, northwest Arizona, and southeast Nevada) has totaled $90,000. The nonprofit organization’s stretch goal is $50,000 per year in grants within the next five years.
