Just in time for the resumption of Zion National Park’s shuttle bus service March 10, spring break begins for many colleges and universities this week, which means higher-than-normal crowds are expected at Zion National Park. The staff anticipates conditions similar to last year’s spring break crowds. Parking inside the park may fill up by 10 a.m., and wait times for shuttle buses at the visitor center may be as long as 45 minutes.

Road and sidewalk construction continues in the town of Springdale, which means traffic congestion and fewer parking options. The park will provide a modified in-town shuttle service to help with getting Springdale visitors to the park. The in-town shuttle service will begin pick up service at 8:10 a.m. at the corner of Lion Boulevard and Winderland Lane (next to town hall) and continue on Winderland Lane, which loops back to State Route 9, aka Zion Boulevard. The shuttle will then turn Left at SR-9, heading north toward the park and resuming the normal stops back to Zion Canyon Village where visitors can access the pedestrian entrance into the park. This modified service will run every 15–20 minutes with the last shuttle leaving Zion Canyon Village back to town departing at 9 p.m. Park Superintendent Jeff Bradybaugh asked that all visitors coming to the park this week have extra patience and vigilance, especially for the safety of others in town while construction continues along the roadways.

The Zion Visitor Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily beginning March 10. The Zion Human History Museum will be open from noon to 4 p.m. with ranger-led patio talks at 2 p.m. on the weekends and at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays.

Starting March 10, the in-town shuttles will resume service under a modified route. In-town shuttle buses will start approximately 8:05 a.m. and run until approximately 9:10 p.m., seven days a week. Until the center of town fully opens up and shuttles can get down to the Hampton Inn, this modified route is expected to be in effect:

—Start at Zion Canyon Village.
—No stops until Lion Boulevard.
—Right onto Lion Boulevard.
—Temporary stop at the Town Offices.
—Left onto Winderland Lane.
—Past Oscar’s.
—Left onto Zion Park Boulevard (where a flagger should be stationed).
—Stop at Bumbleberry Inn.
—Stop at Desert Pearl.
—Stop at Whiptail Grill.
—Stop at Cliffrose Inn.
—Stop at Zion Canyon Village.

The park shuttle service will begin service at the Visitor Center at 7 a.m. heading up the canyon with the last shuttle leaving the Temple of Sinawava (stop 9) at 8:15 p.m. and heading back to the visitor center.
