Cedar Breaks Road opens May 15Cedar Breaks Road opens May 15

By Ken Watson

Cedar Breaks Scenic Drive, also known as State Highway 148, will soon open for the summer season. It is estimated that the road will be cleared and open to vehicles by May 15, depending on weather conditions.

Visitor services such as restrooms and the information center will not be available until May 25. The Alpine Pond, Spectra Point, and Ramparts Trails are currently closed due to excessive snowdrifts and fallen trees and to protect park resources from damage. Park overlooks and the Sunset and Campground Trails are open but have snow and mud in some areas, so visitors are advised to use caution. The Point Supreme Campground will open early June.

Heavy vehicles will be prohibited from using SR 148. A heavy vehicle is defined as any vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating greater than 26,000 lbs. Road signs outlining the weight restriction are posted on all routes leading to the Cedar Breaks National Monument to remind trucks and other heavy vehicles to use alternate routes.

We are looking forward to hosting visitors from across the globe and another cool and colorful summer season in the high country of Cedar Breaks.
