A message from Cedar City Mayor Maile Wilson

This past month, there have been a number of activities that have allowed us to reflect on our City’s heritage. From pioneers, to sheepherders, to iron miners, Cedar City has a varied and inspiring history.

With Thanksgiving taking place this month, I want to express my appreciation for our ancestors, and how their contributions and sacrifices have helped make Cedar City the unique and wonderful place we all enjoy. November also provides an opportunity to honor our veterans on Veterans Day and to celebrate the 167th anniversary of the pioneers arriving in Cedar City.

Although Cedar City’s birthday is technically Nov. 11, we decided that instead of competing with Veterans Day, this year we would combine our Cedar City Birthday Celebration with the Frontier Homestead State Park’s Iron Mission Days, as both events are designed to celebrate the history and heritage of our wonderful city.

The Cedar City Birthday Celebration and Iron Mission Days is a time to come together as a community to celebrate our heritage and the bright future of our city while enjoying numerous family-friendly activities. In addition to birthday cake, the event will include pioneer activities, crafts for kids, and living history demonstrations. Staff will showcase tomahawk throwing, dipping candles, and baking in the wood-fired oven along with many other pioneer activities.

This special event will take place Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. – to 2 p.m. at the Frontier Homestead State Park. You won’t want to miss it!

The Storybook Cavalcade Children’s Parade takes place Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. on Main Street between 200 S and 400 N. This popular parade features nearly 100 entries, including storybook-themed floats, helium balloons, marching bands, and costumed characters including superheros and storybook celebrities. Bring your family and friends and enjoy this year’s Storybook Cavalcade. It’s always a great way to start the holidays!
