SUU hosts second annual Spring Swing Thing

Southern Utah University’s Spring Swing Thing returns with an evening of dance lessons and jazz March 2 at the Gilbert Great Hall located in the Hunter Conference Center. Dance lessons will be provided at 7 p.m. by SUU Associate Provost James Sage and his wife, Toni Sage, director of academic success at SUU. The concert and dance will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Grab your partner or friend, put on your best outfit, and dance the night away at Spring Swing Thing, a community dance for everybody. Community dances have raised the spirits and enhanced social life in communities nationwide since the early American colonial days. Spend a night on the town in a best-dressed environment, and meet some new friends or start a new hobby.
“We are excited to take part in the second annual Spring Swing Thing, where we get to experience big band swing dance music from the 1940s and ‘50s brought back to life by the SUU Jazz Ensemble,” said Dr. Adam Lambert, director of bands at SUU. “This is a great opportunity for all involved with student jazz musicians getting professional performance experience by playing up to 40 tunes in one performance, excellent dance instruction by our very own Toni and James Sage, and just some good, old fashioned swing dancing.”
“We are hoping to build on the success of last year’s event,” said Toni Sage. “We’ve continued to build a community of dancers in Cedar City through the many dance lessons that have been offered. But if you aren’t a dancer, seeing a live big band is an experience not to miss and the dancers are an added bonus that are fun to watch. There will be swing and foxtrot lessons during the event for those who wish to learn.”
