Art Works Gallery will show an exhibit of oil paintings by Sally O’Neill. The opening reception will take place Aug. 30 from 5 to 8 p.m. in conjunction with Art Walk. The exhibit will remain on display through Sept. 21. In addition to this spectacular show, Red Acre Farm will pop up with a delectable array of farm-fresh treats perfect to enjoy while strolling Art Walk. Singer Sofie Scaletta will also perform at the gallery during the evening.

A native of Southern California, Sally O’Neill recently moved to St. George after living in the foothills of the northern Oregon Cascades since 1991.

“It is about capturing the beauty of a place or thing for me,” O’Neill said. “My vision is to elicit the splendor that surrounds us all. As an admirer of the impressionists, I am obsessed with light, color and atmosphere. Through the layering of color and texture, I strive to achieve the influence of light at varying moments of the day. My aspiration is to bring the viewer into a world they would love to be in.”

O’Neill’s plein air and studio paintings reflect her enthusiasm for life and an appreciation for her subject matter. She has studied with a number of prominent artists including Ruben Arizpe, Sr., Camille Przewodek, William Ahrendt, Ovanes Berberian, Becky Joy, and Kathryn Stats. O’Neill also had a constant mentor and artistic ally in her father-in-law, watercolorist Don O’Neill, until his death in 2007. Through the blending of these influences, Sally O’Neill has created her own unique approach, style, and insight.

O’Neill continues to be the recipient of numerous awards. Most recently, she was awarded the Southwest Art Magazine “Award of Excellence” at the Cannon Beach Plein Air Event.
