SUU Percussion Ensemble performs acoustic, electronic percussion music

The SUU Percussion Ensemble will perform under the direction of Dr. Lynn Vartan Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Thorley Recital Hall of the SUU music building. This concert is free and open to the public.
“One of the [pieces] being performed is titled ‘Can You Touch This?’” said Vartan. “Other titles include ‘Aether’ by Francisco Perez, ‘Happenstance’ by Derek Tywoniuk, and ‘Crystals’ by Thomas R. Marceau. There is a feature tour de force for performers Conner Cushman and Russel Horrocks called ‘Flesh and Bone’ and then a very intriguing piece with dance style electronics called ‘Rotating Brains.’”
The SUU Percussion Ensemble consists of both music majors and non-majors and welcomes students with a variety of levels of experience. This ensemble performs historically significant works for percussion, contemporary percussion literature, novelty percussion, and traditional non-western percussion music.
The performance opportunities available to members of the percussion ensemble include concerts, performances, and other promotional events for the College of Performing and Visual Arts as well as concerts on and off campus.
“It takes a lot of hard work both inside and outside of the rehearsal hall for our pieces and that’s not including all of the unique equipment set ups each composition requires! Through the dedication of the ensemble’s members, we make this music come to life,” says Emily Sexton, percussion student at SUU. “Our concert will definitely be an exciting one this semester!”
