It was recently announced by Live United LIVE program director Jeffrey Hall that an agreement was reached with Camping World of St. George to become the title sponsor of this fall’s “Live United LIVE” music festival. Now to be known as Live United LIVE: The Camping World Music Festival, the day-long benefit for the charities supported by United Way Dixie will be staged on October 10 in the St. George Town Square. Thanks to the support of Camping World, United Way Dixie will be able to present an all-star roster of entertainment, featuring British pop icon Howard Jones as the headlining act.
“We are excited for the opportunity to sponsor the 2015 Live United LIVE music festival,” said Camping World of St. George General Manager Charles Gunter. “United Way Dixie does outstanding work, giving back to the greater St. George community in numerous ways. As an active member of the local business community, we are honored to be able to contribute to this year’s efforts.”
Jones, a multiplatinum-selling recording artist, achieved world renown as one of the quintessential figures of the 1980s new wave and synth-pop scenes, best known for his singles, “No One Is To Blame” and “What Is Love?” His 1984 album, “Human’s Lib,” was certified gold and platinum in several countries while his follow-up 1985 disc, “Dream Into Action,” reached number 2 in the U.K. and number 10 in the U.S.
Jones will be joined by a host of national, regional, and local entertainers, including Utah country music favorite Eric Dodge and the popular John Houston Gospel Choir. Just added to the bill are high-energy Celtic Americana rock band Swagger and bluegrass stalwarts Marty Warburton and the Home Girls.
With three albums to their credit, Swagger is a favorite on the festival scene, where their performances spotlight their eclectic influences which include ska, rock, funk, jazz, country, classical, blues, and pop. Their songs celebrate traditional Irish themes while exploring an emigrant’s perspective on the virtues and vices of Irish-American culture.
Marty Warburton & the Home Girls have been winners of the International Bluegrass Showdown and are past recipients of the Nevada State Governor’s Folk Arts Award. Best known for their soaring harmonies, the group has performed at the Colorado River Bluegrass Music Festival and Prescott Bluegrass Festivals in Arizona, the Blythe Area Chamber Bluegrass Festival in California, and at various venues in southern Utah, including Cedar City’s Groovefest, the Zion Canyon Music Festival, and the Opera House in St. George.
“We hope the St. George community will support this benefit event for United Way Dixie,” Hall said. “That support can come in a number of ways, from joining one of our volunteer crews at the music festival, to sponsoring a booth at the event, to making a cash donation during the festival, and more. All of our programs are 100 percent funded by the generous contributions of our donors, so we hope this day of terrific, family-friendly entertainment motivates local residents to give as much as they can.”
