Bloody Heels: Ignite The Sky

There’s a resurgence going on in hard rock with a lot of bands bringing back the style of music that defined the bands of the 80s and early 90s, what sets the new breed of hard rock bands apart from the bands that influenced them is a distinctly more attitude driven and slightly more aggressive sound which keeps them from sounding like tribute bands. Bloody Heels definitely have their musical roots in the style of the classic bands but their sound is a lot more modern than a lot of their contemporaries.
Their latest album Ignite The Sky is their second full-length album and is everything you could want in a hard rock album: incredible playing and singing, epic guitar solos and riffs, attitude, and choruses that you’ll be shouting along to. The album opens with the title track and starts out with some mellow playing before launching into some great driving riffs, this song will be stuck in your head for a long time and would be the perfect song to open a concert with.
“Criminal masterminds” takes snarling aim at the corrupt people in charge that run the institutions of the world, asking the listener “can you tell the difference between a man with a 45 or just a suit and tie?” Singer Vicky White’s combination of raspy and powerful clean vocals really hammering home the disdain which the song conveys.
The playing on this album is phenomenal, whether faster or melodic the band really plays with precision while letting the melody reign supreme.
“Black Swan ” really illustrates both ends of the spectrum extremely well, “Farewell To Yesterday” reminds me a bit of second coming era Shotgun Messiah. One of my very favorite songs on Ignite The Sky is “silhouette” which reminds me of some of the more melodic songs that Skid Row did on their third album Subhuman Race.
“Healing waters” reminds me a bit of Flesh and Blood era poison, plus it has something not enough bands do in rock these days, A great saxophone solo!
That these guys are doing an album this amazing this early in their career has me really excited to see where they go next, Buy this album and crank it up loud!
