ST. GEORGE, UT – The Independent’s Southern Utah Adoptable Pets Guide features adoptable pet adoption from various animal shelters throughout southern Utah. Your new best friend is anxiously awaiting you!

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is located five miles north of Kanab at 5001 Angel Canyon Road. All adoptable cats and dogs are spayed or neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have questions about a specific pet or the adoption process, please email adoptions@bestfriends.org. If you’d like to apply to adopt one of these featured pets, click the link to their bio where you will find the adoption survey.

Woody

This Hurricane Harvey survivor is always extremely wiggly and happy. Woody enjoys attention and cuddling with his friends once he has time to bond with them. He loves to play with toys and enjoys learning new tricks through training. Swimming in the pool is his favorite summertime activity and in winter he loves romping through the snow.

He has done well with dogs the same size or bigger than him at Dogtown, though he takes a bit to warm up to new dogs. He does require someone with dog experience because he can guard his food and toys at times. He would love to meet any potential new dog housemates at the Sanctuary.

Barley

Barley is an outgoing little fluff ball who loves to go on adventures. His short little legs and his age have never held him back! He’s always up for romping around, rolling on his back, and simply having a grand ol’ time. Barley enjoys the company of his people friends and does very well after some relationship building. He would need his potential new family to come to meet him at Dogtown to make sure it is a good fit. A couple of his all-time favorite things to do are playing fetch with a rotation of squeaky toys and getting pets when he’s comfortable and ready.

Jackson

Jackson is a friendly guy who enjoys hanging out with people and taking walks on the Dogtown trails. Jackson rides nicely in the car. When he’s not out and about, you might find him playing with toys. If you’d like to meet Jackson, please fill out an adoption application today.

Lizzie

Lizzie is a friendly girl looking for a heart to win. Her ideal home would have plenty of love to give, lots of comfy beds to sleep on, and wouldn’t mind giving her rides on their shoulders from time to time. Lizzie can coexist well with other cats, though she wouldn’t mind all of your attention to herself either. This girl is the ideal blend of affectionate and independent – every kitty lover’s dream! Contact our adoption team today if you think Lizzie could be your perfect match.

Gulliver

Gulliver came to us in 2018 all the way from NY! Even though he is approaching his senior years don’t let that fool you, he’s still as playful as a kitten. He loves his wand toys, playing with his roommates, and snuggling with both human and feline friends, and his favorite spot is your lap! This sweet boy has Manx which makes him urinary incontinent so he will need to be expressed twice a day but that doesn’t stop him from enjoying the best life has to offer. If you are willing to give this beauty a chance you will not be disappointed, you will surely fall in love with him as we have!

Jinksies

If you are looking for a cat that loves laps look no further. Jinksies wants nothing more than to be around his human and to sit in your lap all day long. His favorite activity is going on harness or stroller walks so he can explore his surroundings. He does get along with his feline roommates but also enjoys his own space. He needs some help expressing his bladder twice a day but don’t let that sway your decision on bringing this perfect gentleman home. He will bring so much joy into your life, you won’t know how you lived without him!

RSQ

RSQ is a non-profit animal rescue in St. George, Utah. Our mission is to be a voice for the voiceless, bettering the lives of animals in Utah’s rural communities. All the animals in our care are fully vetted including spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchiped, and any medical care they may need before adoption. We are open for walk-in visitors on Thursdays, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. For more information on RSQ and our adoptable animals, please contact RSQ at (800) 897-1136 or visit rsqutah.org.

Betty White

Meet Betty White. She was surrendered to RSQ so she could receive medical care. Her lungs still cause her a little trouble, but she is ready to find her forever home!  She is the sweetest girl and so very smart. She is entirely potty trained and loves outside time. Typically, she walks off-leash with us but does very well on the leash as well. Her back feet are arthritic, but she does pretty well getting around and chasing other dogs. Her very favorite thing is laying in the sunshine, and she hugs with her whole body. Food has also become a favorite, so you must watch what you leave lying around! Amazing girl!

We chose to call her Betty as she was surrendered on Betty White’s 100th birthday. Betty was a huge advocate for the animal community, and we couldn’t think of a better tribute to her than naming this beautiful girl after her.

Thunder

8-year-old Thunder is ready for sunny days ahead! He and his sister Chocolate are very loving, potty trained, and friendly, even with cats. He is affectionate, playful yet gentle.  Thunder would love to find a happy loving home to share his love with. Apply to meet Thunder and Chocolate today!

Chocolate

Meet Chocolate! This sweet girl came in with her fur sibling, Thunder. She’s 12 years old and full of love. She’s friendly, gentle, and smart.  She is house-trained and would be good in a home with other dogs and/or cats.  Apply to meet Chocolate and Thunder today!

Crae

We were asked to come get this kitty because he has crossed eyes. The owner said he is not able to hunt and live off the land like the other cats on the property due to his eye issue. They got him to be a mouser on their property, and he’s not doing his job. He enjoys belly rubs, people, soft food, and a warm bed. He is friendly and gentle, and yes, he is house-trained. He would be good in a home with other cats or alone but he does NOT like dogs. Crae deserves a good loving home, is it yours?

Coco

Are you searching for a fun, friendly, and adorable family member?  Coco is the one for you. He loves to play with toys and then have a cuddle session afterward. He is quite silly and sure to keep you smiling with his antics. He is playful, curious, affectionate, and loves kisses. He is currently in a foster home. Call us to plan a time to come meet him.

Keasha

My name is Keasha and I’m a very friendly and pretty girl that is looking for my fur-ever home! I love to be petted and relax in the sun and I am sure to charm you with my sweet and affectionate personality. I am playful and curious, and love kisses! And I’m house-trained and would be good in a home with other cats or alone. Please come in for a visit and adopt me today.

Violet

Violet is a beautiful girl with golden eyes. She is about 1 year old and is a sweet cat who loves her people. She will be a great cat for some lucky person because black cats are good luck! Lady V came to PAWS as a mama cat with 6 babies but she is ready to find her home now. Come and meet her this week!

Orville

This stunning 7-year-old Flame Point is one delicious guy. Sweet as pie and easy on the eyes. He’s seeking a loving calm home where he can be the only cat or a home with another very calm cat. He loves butt rubs, pets, and affection. Come into the PAWS Adoption Center and meet Orville!

Sadie

Hi I am Sadie, a gorgeous 3-year-old Calico/Tabby mix. I am super sweet and love humans, and other cats and I love a running faucet. I am not afraid of getting wet in order to get my water and I will be sure to always make you laugh with my cute antics. I’m waiting to meet you in the PAWS Cat Room.

Samantha

13 months old Samantha is an independent cat that is looking for a home without a dog or cat as she has a very strong personality. This independent gal knows what she wants – a loving home where she can be the queen of the castle. Samantha enjoys getting attention but prefers when it’s on her terms. She will do best in a quiet home where she can be the star of the show. She will rub up on you affectionately. She will greet you at the door and tell you about her day and ask you about yours. She likes hanging out with you while you are doing your chores and she wants to know what you are doing. This fine lady needs someone with some patience, who will work with her and make her comfortable with her surroundings. Her adoption fee is $40.

Bella

Bella came to the shelter when her owner went into assisted living. She is adjusting well to all the changes in her life. She has never been around other animals but is interested in the other cats in the cat room. She is microchipped. Her adoption fee is $40.

Felix

Felix is approx. 1.1/2 years old and a handsome gray/white large tiger cat with personality plus (once he gets to know you). He is a very affectionate and sweet boy who loves being around his people. But, Felix is shy of new people at first so when you go visit him, sit patiently and let him come to you. Once he knows you, he is your best friend. He likes sitting on laps and being petted – he loves attention. Felix is a talkative boy and has a lot to say, and he is rather mellow for such a young boy. His adoption fee is $40.

Nitelite

Nitelite (4 ½ years old) came to the shelter with her mother who has been adopted. These beautiful ladies were surrendered by their owner due to a change in life circumstances. Sweet, but shy, she may take a little time to warm up at first, mostly because of all the changes and new surroundings. She is hoping for a quiet home where she can sit on the sofa with you and warm up your bed. Nitelite is very shy but loves attention, pets, and being beside you or on your lap. Her adoption fee is $40.

Hunter and River

River
Hunter

Hunter and River are approximately 2 or 3 months old and have medium to long black hair and are little fluff balls. Hunter and River are very outgoing and love to play and cuddle. They can be adopted now but can not leave the shelter until after their neuter. Make arrangements to meet them today! Their adoption fees are $40.

Sir Bacon

Hope you like playing ball because Sir Bacon LOVES, LOVES, LOVES to play ball. This beautiful, social boy could play all day. He’s good with the other dogs, a little afraid of cats, and probably great with kids.

Sir Bacon would make a great agility dog. Beware, however, he can and will jump! His adopter should have a high, secure fence to keep him safe.

Bacon has been neutered and microchipped and is up to date on his vaccinations. If you’re interested in Sir Bacon, submit a BAM Adoption Application and, if approved, we’ll contact you as soon as possible to arrange a meeting. If you don’t hear back within 7 days, please text us at 435-773-5209.

Paintbrush

Paintbrush is a stunning boy with the cutest splotchy nose and an infectious smile. We guess his age at a year or less. He’s quite social and enjoys a good game of catch.

Paintbrush is available LOCALLY ONLY as a foster-to-adopt. Once he has been neutered, the adoption can be completed and this beautiful boy will be all yours!

Greta

Greta was born approximately July 1. She’s good with other dogs, kids and cats too! She’s loving, sweet, and playful and wants all the attention for herself.

Greta is available LOCALLY ONLY as a foster to adopt. Once she has been spayed, the adoption can be completed and this cutie patootie will be all yours!

Ozzie

Ozzie is a sweet, playful girl who is ready for any adventure. At 3-1/2 years old, she has a lot of energy and loves to play. This girl can occupy herself alone outside but also loves to romp with kids and other dogs. She will always be happy to stop to give you kisses and follow you around admirably.

Ozzie does have a strong prey drive, however, so cats and chickens are not going to be safe with her. She’s an amazing dog that someone gave up on too soon. She is ready for a parent or family to give their love and time to her.

Diamond

Eight-year-old Diamond is a gentle girl who would give anything to be in an easy-going home with someone special who will take her on leisurely walks and activities and smother her with hugs! She adores sitting in the shady grass and just being loved on.

The poor girl was rescued from a kill shelter in California and, even though she’s safe now, she’s not a fan of being kenneled and would much prefer sitting on a couch with her humans all day watching soap operas.

Diamond enjoys the company of other dogs and will gently remind those that are too playful to be respectful of her age. She’s not a grumpy old lady though–if you ever want a laugh, just get a toy out and watch her play. She steals everyone’s hearts. She has lots of love in her and just needs someone to share it with.

Roxy

Roxy needs a playmate!  This girl is so affectionate, full of life, and smart, smart, smart!!! She wants nothing more than get outside and play ball, tug, you name it–she just wants to play!

Unfortunately, life changes didn’t allow pretty Roxy to stay with her family and she has to be re-homed. She’s a wonderful girl (did we mention that she’s smart?) who needs someone with an active lifestyle and time to help develop her mind. She would probably be a great agility dog, frisbee fetcher, and/or running/hiking partner. And once she’s worn you out, she’ll snuggle up to you on the couch for cuddles and cookies. (Exercise and cookies- you can’t lose!) And can you imagine gazing into those gorgeous eyes every day?
