FMASU’s Electric Film Series Returns to the Electric Theater in 2023!

The 501 (C)(3) nonprofit, Film and Media Alliance of Southern Utah (FMASU), hosts several film-centric events and programs throughout the year, including; Desertscape International Film Festival, The Guerrilla Filmmaking Challenge, HorrorFest International Film Festival, and A Merry Movie Christmas.

Among FMASU’s most celebrated programs is “The Electric Film Series.” Starting on January 17th, this series will present a free noteworthy screening of the past on the third Tuesday of every month throughout 2023. What makes The Electric Film Series a little extra special is that it will give moviegoers a look at the evolution of film over the course of an entire century as each month, the series will focus on a specific title from a consecutive decade. Additionally, each film includes special guest intros, post-screening discussions, photo ops, optional food items for a small donation, and various surprises.

It all starts on January 17^th at 6 PM with a trip to the silent film era. This kickoff event will present 2 short films from the 1900s as well as 2 short films from the 1910s, complete with live piano accompaniment from the gifted Matt Szymanski as well as an intro and post-screening discussion led by film historian and Red Carpet Cinema co-founder Jason Jackson.

The Electric Film Series aspires to provide so much more than bare-bones movie screenings. This is an experience designed to make going to the theater an event by giving attendees a magical evening that’s every bit as educational as it is entertaining.
