A MERRY MOVIE CHRISTMAS RETURNS FOR IT’S 11th CONSECUTIVE YEAR
On Saturday, December 18th, the nonprofit, Film and Media Alliance of Southern Utah (FMASU), is hosting “A Merry Movie Christmas” for its eleventh consecutive year at the Electric Theater. This cinematic yuletide celebration prides itself on creating a platform for local filmmakers but additionally, the goal is to always bring awareness to a worthy local cause.
This year, FMASU and “A Merry Movie Christmas” are celebrating a very special cause in The Figmentation Foundation. This compassionate organization sets out to give children stricken with illness an opportunity to be the heroes of their own adventure through the power of imagination and storytelling. Founder Jeremy Bird and her thoughtful team have created a vital outlet for kids whose lives have been altered by various forms of trauma. Jeremy will be on hand at the event with Operations Director Jacque Ence Bird to discuss this wonderful organization and how what they do can instill confidence and hope among those who need it most.
With The Figmentation Foundation serving as the centerpiece of “A Merry Movie Christmas,” this joyous, daylong event will provide warm and fuzzy entertainment for attendees of all ages and all walks of life. Expect plenty of surprises along the way as well.
The event will open with The 2021 Holiday Edition of the Guerilla Shorts Showcase–A collection of locally made short films that are sure to give you a big dose of Christmas spirit. The Showcase will be followed by a visit from the one and only Santa Claus. The big man himself has taken time out of his hectic schedule for photo ops with the little ones. He’s taking a red-eye flight all the way in from the North Pole so be sure to bring the kids out in a showing of unwavering support. Attendees will then be treated to a catered lunch, a Guerilla Showcase Awards ceremony, and an informative conversation with Team Figmentation Foundation.
This magical celebration will be capped off by a screening of a Christmas classic of the highest caliber, followed by what is sure to be a lively and insightful discussion led by a panel of knowledgeable guest storytellers and film historians, including Mike Caravella, Jason Jackson, Colin Cunningham, and April VeVea.
Lend your support to this wonderful long-running Christmas-inspired event. Tickets are on sale now at fmasu.com and it should be noted that half of the proceeds will go to The Figmentation Foundation.
Happy Holidays, everyone!
