A Mesmerizing Spring Exhibit at the St. George Art Museum

The St. George Art Museum will launch its Spring Exhibition on March 22 from 6-8 PM, featuring the creative talents of Rachel Henriksen, Grace Wilson, and Shane Christensen. Everyone is invited to enjoy light refreshments, meet the artists, and experience how these three distinctive visions share threads of experimentation, tradition, and uplifting community spirit. This opening reception perfectly aligns with the museum’s mission of fostering artistic connections, inspiring creativity, and enriching southern Utah’s cultural landscape through engaging exhibits. With this vibrant spring lineup and a welcoming atmosphere, the St. George Art Museum continues its tradition of celebrating imaginative expression and serving as a central gathering place for art enthusiasts.

Off the Grid: Rachel Henriksen
Henriksen’s “Off the Grid” explores the interplay between structure and disruption, employing grids, patterns, and repetition to reflect the interconnectedness of people and cultures. Her artworks use warped lines, shifted perspectives, and dynamic color, echoing the nuanced dance of human relationships—stable yet ever-changing.

Shangri-La: Grace Wilson
Grace Wilson’s “Shangri-La” offers viewers a radiant sanctuary built on the foundations of love, gratitude, and compassion. Vibrant images and handwritten reflections function as visual “love letters,” emphasizing how kindness and empathy weave through everyday life. Through floating figures, halos, and hearts, Wilson’s work underscores the joyful impact even the smallest caring act can have.

Shane Christensen’s Ceramic Visions
Shane Christensen, a practicing potter since 1993, brings a dynamic ceramic element to the show, blending American folk influences with an Asian flair. After earning his BA in ceramics and sculpture and his MFA from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, Christensen taught at Western Texas College and Snow Canyon High School before becoming an assistant professor and Chair of the Visual Arts Department at Dixie State. His creations, ranging from functional objects to large-scale vases and platters, make deft use of decals and other surface techniques, bridging cultural traditions with universal appeal.
