A Season on the Wind: A Cinematic Concert Celebrating Nature Comes to Springdale

By Elizabeth Gunter

Birdsong, breathtaking visuals, and virtuosic musicianship take center stage at the Bumbleberry Theatre as Zion Canyon Arts and Humanities (Z-Arts) presents A Season on the Wind, a one-night-only cinematic concert by the Bowerbird Collective on Friday, May 16 at 7 PM.

This 50-minute performance is more than a concert—it’s a musical and visual journey that sweeps across the Americas, tracing the flight paths of migratory birds from the shores of Lake Erie through expansive flyways. Inspired by the book A Season on the Wind by celebrated ornithologist and author Kenn Kaufman, the performance is a stirring call to remember and protect the wild things that fill our skies.

A Season on the Wind: A Cinematic Concert Celebrating Nature Comes to SpringdaleFeaturing internationally acclaimed musicians Majel Connery (vocals), Simone Slattery (violin), and Anthony Albrecht (cello), the program pairs original compositions with immersive soundscapes and cinematic imagery. A newly commissioned score by The Brothers Balliett (NYC)—praised for their “vivid, emotive, contemporary twists”—anchors the work with rich musical storytelling.

Commissioned by the Biggest Week in American Birding festival and supported by Kaufman himself, this production by Australia’s award-winning Bowerbird Collective exemplifies their mission of making art for nature. Their performances have been celebrated worldwide for blending ecological storytelling with artistic excellence.

Presented by Z-Arts, this event offers an unforgettable evening for birders, music lovers, and anyone who finds magic in the natural world. Seating is limited, and advance tickets are recommended.
