The Alex Boye concert in Kanab demonstrated what a small town is all about. The sold-out performances required an additional matinee show be added to accommodate the overwhelming response to his small-town tour.
“I wanted to include Utah in my focus for 2016,” stated Boye. “So many have supported me here and I want to pay it back. The community spirit in Utah is phenomenal and I love being a part of it. I want to play in some of the places that no one seemingly plays.”
“We decided to do a Facebook contest,” Boye said. “We asked people where they would like me to play. After we posted it, we went to bed. There were over 6,000 comments the next day. My wife and I went through them one by one and were thrilled with the response and support.”
Upon announcing the two-night concert in Kanab, the response was overwhelming. The tickets sold out in a very short time. This resulted in a matinee concert on Jan. 23 being added to accommodate.
“Last year, I played lots of gigs and concerts out of town,” Boye shared. “It is kind of funny, everyone wants to say they are from somewhere else. They are like, ‘I’m living in Utah but I’m from California,’ or wherever. But my family is here. The people have been good to me. They support me. This is where I would like to raise my family. And I want to include Utah in my performances.”
In addition to including places in his small-town tour, Boye is including people in his concert. The night not only showcased Boye’s immense musical talent; he engaged the audience with stories and interaction. He played matchmaker with a couple of single people, which had the audience laughing and interacting. He included Kanab’s orchestra, Boy Scouts from the audience, and the local choir. He walked through the audience and connected with the community. After the concert, he took time with every person who wished to meet him. Whether taking a picture, signing an autograph, or just saying hello, Boye stayed for everyone.
His late night of performing and mingling was followed by a stay at the Canyon Boutique Hotel and Sego Restaurant where he took more time out of his busy schedule as he was preparing to drive to Las Vegas to work on shooting another video with Marie Osmond. Boye shared that this is a very busy time in his life and that he is finding it “crazy in a great way.”
Boye said he is thrilled with the response by those coming out to support his work and is excited about continuing the small-town tour. He shared that a huge number of those social media comments said he should play in St. George.
“St. George, St. George, St. George, just a lot of St. George. Many of them with nothing else, but, St. George,” said Boye. “We knew we had to include a St. George concert.”
St. George it is. Boye will return to southern Utah to perform Feb. 5–6 at Desert Hills High School in St. George. The concerts start at 8:30 p.m. Feb. 5 and at 7 p.m. Feb. 6. Tickets can be purchased at ticketor.com/alexboye.
