Amadeo Wauneka will perform at the 34th annual Gathering of Nations powwow, the world’s largest gathering of Native American and indigenous people. The Gathering of Nations powwow will host hundreds of thousands of people and more than 700 tribes from throughout the United States, Canada, and around the world. Tribes celebrate their culture and traditions through dance, music, food, and indigenous dress regalia. The Gathering of Nations powwow will take place April 28 and 29 at Expo New Mexico in Albuquerque. Wauneka will perform April 28 at 2:50, 6:20, and 9 p.m. and April 29 at 1:45, 6, and 11:45 p.m.
In addition to Wauneka, 35 performers will entertain powwow attendees. Celebrating Native American and indigenous cultures through music, the bands herald from throughout North America and will perform many types of music and dances from traditional Native American music to reggae, hip hop, and rock. Strolling entertainers will also perform throughout the powwow and will include the Acoma Rain Dancers, Cellicion Zuni Dancers, Diamond Creek Crown Dancers, the In Tlanextli Tlacopan, the Xiuh Arte Aztec Dancers from Mexico, and more.

Wauneka is from Fort Defiance, Arizona and raised in Cedar City, Utah. He is a self-taught dancer and has been performing for five years.
“I am 20 years old and am honored to perform for the 2017 Gathering of Nations Powwow,” said Wauneka. “Every dance I do is one of a kind, I improvise as I go.”
The Stage 49 finale on Saturday evening will feature a glow dance party for all attendees with dance music by DJ Logic based out of New York City. It will begin at 11:45 p.m.
Tickets for the 2017 Gathering of Nations range in price between $18 and $73 (plus online fees) and can be purchased online. Tickets will be available at the door during the event and include admission to Stage 49. General parking is available at Expo New Mexico.
