Visitors to downtown St. George will be hard pressed to miss the intensity of the “Pink Lady” by Jerry Anderson. Displayed just north of Bear Paw Café and Rigatti’s Pizza on the corner of Main and the Boulevard, “Pink Lady” is a piece people can’t stop talking about. It seems to be one of those pieces they either love or hate.
Since Anderson’s inclusion and placement of his contribution, people have been talking about this particular piece, and it won’t be the first time his art has raised eyebrows. Anderson’s art is seasoned with controversy in southern Utah. His sculpture “The Rebels”—previously displayed at Dixie State University—and his commissioned John D. Lee bust for Washington City have both generated arguments from lovers and haters. “Pink Lady” is certainly getting people talking about art in general and Art Around the Corner exhibits specifically.
Anderson is a highly skilled and well-known bronze sculptor. His art is displayed worldwide. Anderson’s attention to detail has made him widely recognized as a master of bronze sculpture. Composition, perspective, and anatomy are skill traits he has both taught as part of The Famous Artists Course and implemented in his own pieces.
Anderson is most widely known for his pieces being western, wildlife, and people. Completing over 55 maquette bronzes and 52 life-sized monuments, Anderson’s accomplishments show no sign of slowing down. In fact, the diversity of “Pink Lady” shows the creativity is still flowing freely through his mind and to his hands.
As you tour the downtown St. George outdoor exhibit, make certain to take a moment to take in Jerry Anderson’s “Pink Lady”. Whether you love it or hate it, you won’t forget it.
Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly listed the name of the piece as “Pink Stiletto.”
