On the corner of 200 North and Main Street in downtown St. George, near Ancestor Square, you will find a beautiful new world filled with hope, awe, and inspiration. Annette Everett’s sculpture, titled “The World is Mine,” stands out to those passing by as it shimmers and gleams in the midday sun.

Art Around the corner World is Mine Annette Everett 2“This sculpture is for the miracle of the creation of the earth and all its innumerable miracles,” Everett stated. “Sitting on top of a world made of unlimited wonders, a boy and a girl sit back to back, engrossed in the books they are reading in their laps. This concept comes from an old poem: ‘I had a mother who read to me, the world is mine.'”

“My mother taught the joy of discovering the curious variety found in this world, often through books,” she said. “You could live ten different lifetimes and never do the same thing twice, this world is so full and bursting with wonders to be discovered. Through education, the whole world is open to us.”

This piece represents the infinite possibility of all there is to learn and experience in this big world of ours, as it also keeps the curiosity of being childlike alive in even the oldest of viewers. This beautifully crafted bronze sculpture was created in 2010 and is currently for sale, listed at $6,200. Take a moment and a close look to notice its intricate detail, then stand back and take in the enormous possibility of its symbolism. Listed as No. 2 on Art Around the Corner‘s map, it is worth the short walk to the top of the street to witness one of St. George’s local gems.
