At the upcoming Art Insights, graphic and web designer JungYun Son will discuss her art and personal process. She has transformed a childhood passion for color and texture into a remarkable career spanning two continents. Son’s presentation will take place in SUU’s Auditorium Theater on Thursday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. The presentation is free and open to the public.
Born and raised in South Korea, JungYun Son holds a bachelor’s degree in visual communication design from Korea and received a master’s degree in graphic design along with multimedia minor from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She attended the Academy of Art University in San Francisco where she studied web design and new media. After she graduated from RIT, she got her first job as a graphic designer in New York City, specializing in the fields of corporate identity design, wayfinding system design, publication design and web design.
Ms. Son joined the art department at SUU as an assistant professor in 2013, specializing in web design. Prior to joining SUU, she worked as an art educator in graphic design and web design in Korea and the United States. She is also a design researcher who seeks new experiments and puts her efforts into learning. Her research interests include a variety of design areas, recently focusing on cultural influences in graphic design and color interpretation in cultures, businesses, and marketing. She continues to create and exhibit art as well as expand her knowledge and experience as an educator and a graphic designer.
Art Insights is a weekly program hosted during the fall and spring semesters by SUU’s Art and Design faculty. Students and community members meet to experience presentations and discussions by visiting artists and art educators from around the nation who share their work and insights and attend gallery openings.
