It appears that I am back in the saddle with Kate Dalley. Several weeks ago, I wrote a piece about the cancellation of the Kate Dalley Show on 1450 KZNU and why, in spite of my and Kate’s differing views on almost everything, I thought her show mattered.
Kate was down for a minute, but she certainly was not out. She hit the street and was able to procure backing to get the show back on the air in the same time slot at the same station — and even better, it’s now her show. She owns it.
Good on you, Kate.
I will be returning to the show as a guest cohost starting this Wednesday, taking the 3–4 p.m. time slot every other week. So much for the naysayers who said Kate removed me from the show because she didn’t want my liberal ilk poisoning her listeners’ ears.
Digressing from using my column this week to make this announcement was two-fold. The first and obvious reason is the announcement and how important I think the kind of show Kate has is to the community.
But it was also to take a much-needed break from putting the city and that school — as well as our local courts, it now seems — under some scrutiny. Would you believe me if I told you that that shit is wearing me out?
So while you may or may not ask — or care, for that matter — I want you to know that the primary reason behind it all boils down to simply being a voice for the voiceless. The voiceless are everywhere, mind you. But ours locally have their own unique flavor. Power and position here are equated to the grace of God, and the corruption that spews goes unchecked by design. People earnestly believe that deity has something to do with leadership yet conduct themselves in a “deathbed salvation” manner; that is to say they think all will be forgiven in the end, so anything goes … no matter who gets hurt.
The other reason is pretty straightforward as well. I’ve coined the phrase, and you’ll hear me say it and read me writing it often: to incite a rigorous dialogue on matters of consequence. I don’t want to argue. I want to find common ground and engage in conversations that are inclusive, that incite thought, and that initiate the much-needed broadening and diversification that this community so badly needs.
I hope you tune in and call in as well as engage right here at the Indy. It is rare for me to reposed in the comment sections, but you can write me.
See you out there.
Glad to hear you will be back. Wednesdays were the only days I made it a priority to tune into Dalleys show.
Hardly surprising that listeners to that program thought you had been bounced to shut you up. Dalley and her audience never met a conspiracy they didn’t like.
People that regard you as a liberal don’t know any real liberals.
Comfort the afflicted — afflict the comfortable.
Always glad to read what you have to say, Dallas. It is refreshing to read, especially in this part of the country.
I’m sure this won’t matter much to you, but I think your opinion of Ms. Dalley is skued. Whether it’s because your one of her co-hosts or for some other personal reason I don’t know. But as I said in the earlier article I don’t think she has the right personality for this type of talk show. She seems too thin skinned to me. My dealings with her were unprofessional and lacked the type of investigative initiative need to do her job well. But that’s just the opinion of one person. I could tell you all about my dealings with her but why? She will just say I scared her and she didn’t think I had anything worth listening to. Even though she never gave me a chance to tell her my story. All she did was sit back and let David Bader threaten and harass me because she wasn’t professional enough to get the story from me instead of just listening to him. Well I hope being on her show helps you spread the word with as many people as possible but I still wouldn’t tie my cart to tightly to her if I were you.
I like the new photo. Shows your investigative journalism and film-making side. Right out of an old b&w film noire movie. Dashiell Hammett? Raymond Chandler?
