Southern Utah’s luxury playground, Black Desert Resort, is raising the game—literally. The resort has announced plans to unveil 21 world-class pickleball courts in spring 2026, cementing its place as one of the nation’s premier destinations for both recreation and hospitality.
Developed in partnership with the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) and Greater Zion, the expansion includes a Championship Court with seating for 1,000 spectators, cutting-edge technology for player analytics and line calls, and luxe player amenities such as heated and misted cabanas. Designed by SWABACK Architects + Planners, the courts will blend seamlessly with the area’s black lava and red rock landscapes, offering both a competitive and scenic playing experience.
The facility will debut with a major tournament—the Greater Zion Cup—one of only five elite Cup events on the Carvana PPA Tour. The event will draw top-ranked athletes and fans from around the world to Ivins for several days of world-class play.
“Here at Black Desert, the pickleball courts are part of our broader mission to support the local community and economy by attracting visitors, creating jobs, and driving regional tourism,” said Patrick Manning, managing partner of Black Desert Resort. “The Greater Zion Cup will further enhance Southern Utah’s reputation as a premier destination for sports and recreation.”
Connor Pardoe, Founder and CEO of the Carvana PPA Tour, added, “Southern Utah is a very special place for the PPA Tour. We’re thrilled to partner with Black Desert and Greater Zion to bring our signature tournament to one of the most breathtaking venues in the country.”
Set amid 600 acres of red sandstone cliffs and black lava fields, Black Desert Resort already features a Tom Weiskopf-designed championship golf course, 447 luxury rooms and suites, seven dining venues, a 15,000-square-foot spa, and extensive meeting and event spaces. The upcoming pickleball complex reflects the resort’s continued investment in making Greater Zion a global destination for recreation and culture.
“The Greater Zion Cup at Black Desert Resort puts our region on the global map for pickleball,” said Brittany McMichael, director of Greater Zion. “This new facility will be a world-class venue in one of the most stunning settings anywhere.”
