Capturing the Desert: The 4th Annual St. George Plein Air Festival Brings Art to Life

April 7-12, 2025

Every April, St. George transforms into a living canvas as artists gather for the St. George Plein Air Festival. Now in its fourth year, the festival is more than just an event—it’s a community celebration of art and nature. From April 7-12, 2025, painters will capture Southern Utah’s red rock vistas, desert gardens, and vibrant cityscapes.

Public Paint Out – April 8

Experience plein air painting up close at the Paint Out at Red Hills Desert Garden on Tuesday, April 8, from 9 AM – Noon. This free, family-friendly event invites visitors to watch artists at work—or even try painting themselves.

“The Paint Out is a wonderful way for people to see artists in action,” says a festival organizer. “It’s magical watching a blank canvas transform before your eyes.”

A Week of Art & Inspiration

The festival also features special events for registered artists, including a Nocturne Paint Out and a talk by master artist Roland Lee. Competitors will vie for top honors, with all works showcased at the final exhibition.

The festival culminates in a free public exhibit at Social Hall (212 N Main St, St. George) from 3-6 PM, featuring original artwork created throughout the week. Highlights include:

  • People’s Choice Voting (3-4 PM) – Attendees vote for their favorite piece.
  • Awards Ceremony (4 PM) – Recognizing top artists.
