July’s Final Friday Gallery Stroll, part of Cedar City Art Walk, is scheduled for Friday, July 31, from 5 to 8 p.m. at various locations throughout downtown Cedar City.
Art Walk features collaborations between artists and local businesses and galleries located in or near downtown Cedar City. Art Walk brochures are available at the Visitor’s Center or any of the participating locations, or you can download and print a digital map below. Look for posters in the windows or outside of each location for identification of participating venues.
During the Final Friday Gallery Strolls, the community is encouraged to enjoy and support the local arts festivities Cedar City has to offer by visiting the 16 different Art Walk locations. Cedar City Music Arts will provide live music at Artisans Art Gallery, and light refreshments will be served. Across the street, galleryGALA will also be providing light refreshments. While you’re still on the south side of Center Street, stop by the El Rey Inn and Suites to see Chip Wiggin demonstrate the inking and printing process of traditional relief printmaking. Next door, musician Art Kaufman will be performing during the gallery stroll at the Brick House Café.
The Beverley Taylor Sorensen Center for the Arts information station will be in front of the SUU Alumni House across from the construction site. At the booth, visitors can participate in giveaways and learn more about the Southern Utah Museum of Art and the new Utah Shakespeare Festival Theatre. Next to the construction site, the Randall L. Jones Theatre is featuring the Adams Theatre 2015 Farewell Exhibit, a visual tribute to the classic USF theater.
For those with children participating in this year’s Cedar City Unplugged program, badges may be earned from the Garth & Jerri Frehner Museum of Natural History and the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery, both located on the SUU campus. Also at the natural history museum, Larry Laskowski and Joey Favino will demonstrate their unique painting techniques and visit with guests.
The Cedar City Arts Council has started a new stamp card program to add to the Art Walk festivities. After receiving a stamp card from any of the locations, participants can then collect stamps as they enjoy the walk. Once eight stamps have been collected on the card, take it to Artisans Art Gallery to be entered in a drawing that will take place during the Final Friday. This month’s prize is a season pass for SUU’s Theatre and Dance department productions and a “Holst: The Planets, an HD Odyssey” DVD. Multiple entries are allowed, and stamp cards may be turned in at any time until the end of the Art Walk. If you do not win this month, your entry will be kept for next month’s drawing.
Participants are encouraged to begin the Art Walk on the east side of town at the Heritage Center, located at 105 North 100 East, and walk west on University Boulevard toward SUU and the Utah Shakespeare Festival, ending at any of the locations on campus. The Final Friday Gallery Strolls are deliberately scheduled right before the Utah Shakespeare Festival performances, giving participants an opportunity for an exceptionally diverse arts and culture experience this summer.
The 2015 Cedar City Art Walk and the Final Friday Gallery Strolls are free, and the public is encouraged to attend.
Projects and activities of the Cedar City Arts Council are supported in part by the Utah Division of Arts & Museums, the State of Utah, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Cedar City Recreation, Arts, & Parks Tax, and the Cedar City Brian Head Tourism Bureau.
