Cedar City Community Band debuts, seems members

The Cedar City Community Band will share a variety of music during its May 1 debut concert in the Cedar High School auditorium at 7 p.m. The band was created through SUU Community Education to give high school-aged and older musicians the opportunity to get reacquainted with their instrument of choice. The concert is free and open to the public.
The band is instructed by Adam Lambert, director of bands and brass studies at SUU, conductor of the American Fork Symphony, and assistant conductor of the Orchestra of Southern Utah.
“A good number of people have been asking for an opportunity like this, both from the college and the community,” said Lambert. “It’s been fun to see faculty and students come out and play, many of whom have not played their instruments for quite a while. Community members have also seemed grateful for the opportunity.”
Attendees can expect to hear a fun mix of serious and some not-so serious music. Works will include a beautiful arrangement of “Amazing Grace,” “English Folk Song Suite” by Vaughan Williams, and the Frank Erickson classic “Air for Band.”
“I love the members of this community and have been impressed with their enthusiasm for music and willingness to give their best for this group,” said Lambert.
The Cedar City Community Band is looking for new members to join the upcoming summer session. No auditions are necessary, and its aim is to provide an opportunity to those wishing to develop their instrumental performance skills by rehearsing and performing fun, exciting, and challenging music. All high school-aged and older individuals with prior concert band performance experience are welcome.
