Cedar Valley Community Theatre Presents ‘Freaky Friday The Musical’
January 27, 30, 31, & February 1st, 2025, at the Heritage Center Theater in Cedar City, Utah.
“Freaky Friday the Musical” is a lively stage adaptation of the beloved story, based on the 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers and inspired by the Disney films. From the book by Bridget Carpenter, music by Tom Kitt, and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, this musical brings a fresh and energetic twist to the classic body-swapping tale.
The story follows Katherine Blake, a high-strung mother, and her rebellious teenage daughter, Ellie. On the eve of Katherine’s wedding, a magical hourglass causes them to switch bodies, forcing them to navigate each other’s lives for a chaotic and comedic day. As they struggle to fit into unfamiliar roles—Katherine dealing with high school pressures and Ellie managing wedding planning and work—they gain a deeper appreciation for one another.
Featuring a contemporary pop-rock score, standout songs like “Just One Day,” “Oh, Biology,” and “Go”, the show blends humor with heartfelt moments. Its themes of empathy, understanding, and family connection make it a hit for all ages.
Premiering in 2016, Freaky Friday has been performed in regional theaters and schools, proving its enduring popularity. Its relatable characters and catchy music ensure that audiences leave entertained and inspired.
