The St. George Museum of Art invites the community to a colorful evening of remembrance and celebration during its annual Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) event on Friday, November 1, beginning at 5 PM. The free, family-friendly event runs through 8 PM and promises an inspiring mix of art, dance, music, and tradition honoring loved ones who have passed.

“We invite all members of the community to experience this unique cultural celebration,” said Kacey Carter, Special Events and Programming Specialist for the Museum of Art. “It’s one of our most cherished traditions, bringing families together to honor life, art, and remember those who have passed.”

This year’s celebration will feature a pop-up art exhibition showcasing local community submissions, a live performance by Ballet Folklorico Anayansi, a community Ofrenda, and a floating remembrance tree. Guests can also enjoy free horchata, children’s crafts, face painting, and live music, blending culture and creativity into a memorable night at the museum.

The Day of the Dead is a traditional Mexican holiday celebrating the lives of deceased loved ones through offerings, storytelling, and symbolic art. Rather than mourning, families come together to celebrate and keep their ancestors’ memories alive.

“The Day of the Dead is seen as a time to celebrate, not mourn,” Carter added. “It’s a beautiful reminder that through art, community, and memory, our loved ones live on through us.”
