Community invited to DOVE Center’s annual meeting

DOVE Center, a local organization that offers resources and services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault, invites the community to attend DOVE Center’s annual meeting to celebrate successes of the past year Nov. 13, from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Holiday Inn located at 1808 S. Crosby Way in St. George. DOVE Center’s board of directors will be in attendance, and light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public. Attendees are asked to RSVP here.
“We are so thrilled to be able to host our community at this event without asking for anything in return,” said Ruth Weniger, board president of DOVE Center. “This is our one opportunity each year to report back to the community what their donations of time, talent, and treasure have accomplished for the survivors we serve.”
Utah continues to rank higher than average in domestic violence rates. Throughout the state, one in three women will experience domestic or sexual violence at some point in their lifetimes, compared to one in four nationwide. One in six boys will experience sexual abuse before the age of 16.
“Domestic violence is here, in our communities and in our neighborhoods,” said Lindsey Boyer, executive director of DOVE Center. “I am so grateful for members of this community that have stepped up against domestic abuse and sexual assault.”
DOVE Center noted a 25 percent increase in clients served from 2016 to 2017 fiscal years and continues to see an increase in the number of people reaching out for help.
“Annual meeting is our way of saying a profound thank you on behalf of all survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault that we have been privileged to serve this year,” Weniger said.
