COVID-19 Won’t Keep Us Apart:
Switchpoint Live Virtual Event
“If you are like me, the longer this pandemic continues, the harder it is to control the knots in my stomach due to my worry, and concerns for the 1,000’s that are suffering and going hungry — just trying to stay out of COVID-19’s way,” said Linda Stay, Director of Development. “I also recognize my privilege in being able to stay safe by staying home. This is not the case for the many lives that Switchpoint cares for, nor our staff at the shelter, food pantry, soup kitchen, or our businesses.”
Switchpoint recently had to cancel its biggest fundraiser of the year, which they have relied on for the bulk of their operating budget. Yet, Switchpoint cannot close its doors, and it cannot shut down. “We will not abandon the people that need us now more than ever.” Linda continued. “Instead we will come together – to support one another, even if that needs to be done online, virtually. We need a hug, and we’re guessing you do too.”
Now, for those of us who have lived here long enough, you will remember just how much our former Mayor, Mayor Dan McArthur, used to love to sing. Do you remember the song? “Are you from Dixie?”
If you didn’t know this, it’s a song that was written by Roene Bigler DiFiore (1920-1990), who also established Dixie College (now Dixie State University). In her time, she was affectionately known as “Mrs. D.” and most likely, she never envisioned just how much joy her creation would bring southern Utah, especially as Mayor Dan delivered it time and time again in many settings.
So we’re not sure what Mayor Pike is planning to sing, but if you’d like to hear him as much as we do, be sure to tune into Switchpoints Live Virtual Event this Tuesday at 8 AM with a repeat event at noon. We’re told he’s planning to do just that… Sing!
