David J. West Gallery hosts intimate performance by Alex Boye
On June 24 from 4:30 to 6 p.m., the David J. West gallery will host a private dinner party featuring a meet and greet and an intimate tableside performance by Alex Boye. David J. West will release a new photograph also titled “Bend Not Break” in honor of spreading the message of letting love replace loneliness. Tickets are $150. All contributions are 501(c)(3) tax deductible with a receipt.
Following the gallery dinner and performance, Boye will perform in concert at the O.C. Tanner Amphitheater from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The second concert is free and open to the public.
Suicide was the leading cause of death for Utahns ages 10 to 24. Alex Boye was recently named an official advocate by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, to which Bob Gebbia, president of the foundation, has credited Boye’s single “Bend not Break” for saving many lives. Donations will help other communities come together and raise awareness of suicide and mental health.
Born and raised in London, England, Alex Boye was homeless by the age of 16. Dancing in a nightclub with no hope, a song came on that changed the trajectory of his life.
“It felt like 10 years worth of therapy in 3 minutes,” Boye said. Studies have shown that music can cause a powerful shift in people’s lives in ways that words alone cannot. This is where Boye said the inspiration of the Bend Not Break Tour began.
There are many young people who are hurting today. The purpose of the Bend Not Break Tour is to transform lives through the medium of music, spoken word, and visual images in addition to bringing stronger awareness to suicide prevention and mental illness through messages of hope.
