David Ziegler-Voll presents on branding and design at SUU
By Amanda DeBry
The Southern Utah University art department is excited to welcome artist David Ziegler-Voll to present on his artwork Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. at the SUU Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
“David labels himself a ‘creative tornado,’ and I can’t think of a more suitable way to describe the creative force he is,” said Benjamin Kirkby, assistant professor of graphic design at SUU. “His passion for design is at a level that students and seasoned professionals alike can aspire to. David’s creativity spills out beyond his work and into everything he does, from leading a successful rock band, starting a clothing company, and being an accomplished athlete, all the way down to making amazing food. He is a true artist in all aspects of his life.”
Ziegler-Voll studied fine arts at the University of Montana, Billings and graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in photography. His professional career began as a store designer before starting his own design studio in Tucson, focusing on graphic design and brand development. In 2007, Ziegler-Voll’s band, Lagoon, moved to the East Coast and he unexpectedly wound up as a senior package designer for Trader Joe’s, creating some of their most iconic and memorable packaging. He is currently creative director at MBD, a brand package design agency. In his spare time, David has become an avid marathoner and triathlete, something he says “is totally bizarre considering I’ve never considered myself athletic.”
“I am so excited to speak at SUU because I love mentoring and sharing what I have learned over the course of my career with students interested in design,” Ziegler-Voll said. “I also love the West. Having lived in Boston for the past ten years, I am always appreciative of any time I get to find myself under the expansive skies of places like Utah.”
