In an effort to support Breast Cancer Awareness, Destinations Organic Salon and Spa will be donating 15 percent of all service and retail sales from Monday, Oct. 26, to Saturday, Oct. 31, to The Breast Cancer Charities of America’s iGoPink Campaign.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The annual campaign seeks to increase awareness of the disease. Most people know someone within their social circles who has been diagnosed with the disease. It is not simply enough to be aware of breast cancer. It is crucial to take and support the steps in detecting the disease in its early stages where it is most able to treated successfully. In addition to detection, it is important to support research and treatment to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease. The National Breast Cancer Foundation offers suggestions for an early detection plan here.
The Breast Cancer Charities of America exists to eliminate breast cancer as a life-threatening illness. Their website states, “We bring together organizations representing all health and social service disciplines in the commitment to establish new and unprecedented levels of effectiveness in research, education, advocacy and support. BCCA is the only non-profit bringing the ‘integrated cancer care’ message to women of America.”
“Being in the organic beauty industry, this is a cause that is very near to our hearts,” stated Tori Frei, co-owner of Destinations Organic Salon and Spa. “Beauty products that women use everyday contain many chemicals that are known carcinogens, and those same chemicals are greatly amplified in conventional salon products.”
“Our mission at Destinations Organic Salon and Spa is to empower women to look and feel their best with the healthiest beauty options on the market,” Frei said. “Every product brought into our salon has been heavily researched and determined to be the most chemical free, quality choice available.”
Destinations Organic Salon and Spa also specializes in lymphatic drainage treatments to help move lymph and drain chemicals and toxins in order to assist the body to detox on its own. Although lymphedema can be inherited, it often is associated with cancer treatment, most notably breast cancer. Recognized as a primary tool in lymphedema management, Manual Lymphatic Drainage involves a gentle massage intended to encourage the natural drainage of the lymph.
“This is treatment is so helpful for those who have undergone chemotherapy because it can rid the body of the buildup of toxins deposited during chemo treatments,” Frei stated. “We also hold free education classes, each month, on various health and beauty topics. This month the classes centered around detoxing and lymphatic drainage. Our next class is on Oct. 28 highlighting essential oils that help the lymph flow.”
“Everything we do at Destinations Organic Salon and Spa is oriented towards promoting healthy beauty and a healthy body,” stated, Lisa Herring, co-owner of Destinations Organic Salon and Spa. “We have mad it our mission to find and provide product manufacturers with cruelty-free, ethical production of natural, chemical free beauty products. Everything we use is organic.”
“Our everyday practice is about bringing awareness of cancer and supporting beauty naturally,” said Herring. “This fundraising is just an extension of our daily beliefs and hope it will help others become more aware of the things they can implement in their lives to prevent cancer.”
