Dixie Days Celebration
First-ever Dixie Days set to offer ‘a spectacular week of festivities,’ Sept. 8-14 in St. George
In recognition of those who endured so much to establish the City of St. George, our pearl in the desert, city staff and an army of civic-minded volunteers have banded together to plan the first-ever Dixie Days Celebration, Sept. 8-14, 2024.
“Join us for a spectacular week of festivities as we celebrate the rich heritage and vibrant community spirit of St. George,” said Mayor Michele Randall. “Our committee has been hard at work creating a fantastic lineup of events and activities for all ages. Dixie Days is a community party. Let’s show everybody why we call it the Dixie Spirit.”
The highlight of the weeklong celebration is the Dixie Days Festival on Sept. 14 from 10 AM to 6 PM at Historic Town Square. It includes food, lively entertainment, and booths highlighting our City’s pioneer heritage. Stick around at Town Square to watch musician Chris Petersen play at 6 PM, and at 8 PM, join us for a free screening of Electric Horseman.
A wide variety of Dixie Days activities are set to occur in the second week of September.
- Sept. 8: Fireside Kickoff, 7 PM at the St. George Tabernacle. Steve Snow will give a talk titled “A Dixie Homecoming.”
- Sept. 9: Dixie Days Golf Tournament at Southgate Golf Club, 9 AM The tournament is sold out.
- Sept. 9: Dixie Days Drone Show, 9 PM, from above Red Hills Desert Garden. Great viewing areas are available throughout downtown — wherever the Red Hill can be seen.
- Sept. 9-14: Film Screenings at the Electric Theater (68 E. Tabernacle), featuring “Moonshot,” “My Father’s Highway” and “Preservation and Progress.” All movies are free to attend and will be shown multiple times.
- Sept. 9-14: Photography Exhibit at the Social Hall (212 N. Main). Step back in time and explore the rich history of Southern Utah’s Cotton Mission through the lens of Lynne Clark, a renowned photographer and historian.
- Sept. 10: Pioneer Park Interpretive Trail Ribbon Cutting, 10 AM (375 Red Hills Parkway). This new paved trail contains interpretive signage to tell the story of St. George’s origins and the surrounding nature.
- Sept. 10-11: Dixie Treks, throughout the day. There are four treks to local historic sites available for tours: Tabernacle Attic; Watercress Springs, Old West Spring and Dixie Red Hills; Middleton Tunnel, Hernia Dam and Red Hills Water Tank; and Escalante Oil Well #2.
- Sept. 12-14: 90th Annual Dixie Roundup Rodeo, beginning at 7:30 PM nightly at the Dixie Sunbowl. The rodeo is one of St. George’s most cherished traditions.
- Sept. 13: Dinner on Main, 5 PM to 9 PM. Fine dining on Main Street, just south of St. George Boulevard.
- Sept. 14: Dixie Days Dash, 8 a.m., beginning at Historic Town Square, in front of the splash pad. Participants can choose between two distances: 4K or 2K.
- Sept. 14: Dixie Roundup Rodeo Parade, 9 a.m. along Tabernacle Street, between 200 West and 400 East, before turning south toward Vernon Worthen Park.
