DOVE Center seeks volunteer committee and board members
By Leanna Bergeron
DOVE Center is seeking enthusiastic volunteers for its board of directors as well as for various other committees.
DOVE Center is the primary service provider for survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault in Washington County. Its services include emergency shelter, transitional housing, counseling, group therapy, hospital advocacy, and court advocacy, among many others.
The organization is now seeking applicants for its board of directors, which comes with a three-year commitment and has openings available as soon as July 1.
Board members are actively engaged in fundraising, awareness, and outreach activities of the agency. The board is responsible for setting the mission, strategy, and goals of the organization as well as for assuring sound fiduciary oversight.
“As we continue to grow so does our reliance on outside support in various capacities,” said Ruth Weniger, president of the board of directors. “We welcome those with a passion for our mission and the ability to help.”
DOVE Center committees also seek active participants in finance, marketing and communications, legislative, development, and education.
The nonprofit agency relies on the expertise of volunteer committee members to help advance efforts and efficiency in all of the above fields.
“I was glad to hop on the opportunity to get involved and always feel like my input is valued and appreciated,” said Jon Bacon, vice president of marketing for SureCall and a volunteer member on the DOVE Center marketing and communications committee. “I feel good knowing I am contributing to making a change in my community, but especially for the survivors who are so deserving of a better future.”
