DSU kicks off spring lecture series with documentary film producer Sandra Schulberg

Dixie State University’s weekly lecture series “Dixie Forum: A Window on the World” kicks off for the spring semester with the lecture “Documentary Film and the Holocaust” by accomplished producer Sandra Schulberg. 

Sandra Schulberg will present during this special installment of the Dixie Forum series on Wednesday, Jan. 21, from noon to 12:50 p.m. in the Zion Room on the fifth floor of Holland Centennial Commons on the DSU campus. The forum series will continue each Tuesday of the spring semester. Admission is free for all community members, DSU students, faculty and staff.

Schulberg’s background on her presentation’s topic includes researching and writing a book with her uncle Budd Schulberg about the hunt for Nazi film and photo evidence that was used in the Nuremberg trial. Following the release of the book, “The Celluloid Noose,” Schulberg teamed up with Josh Waletzky to complete the restoration of the film “Nuremberg: Its Lesson for Today.”

Schulberg has also worked in Europe as a senior executive for American Playhouse/ Playhouse International Pictures, where she was charged with securing European and Japanese financing for American independent films and TV dramas. Additionally, she has managed film investments for Hollywood Partners, a private German media fund, serving as executive producer for the Oscar-nominated “Quills” starring Geoffrey Rush and Kate Winslet and “Undisputed” starring Wesley Snipes and Ving Rhames among others. Under her own banner, she produced the Sundance Grand Prize-winner “Waiting for the Moon.”

A longtime advocate of independent filmmakers, Schulberg founded the Independent Feature Project and IFP Market, co-founded First Run Features and served as one of the first nominators to the Sundance Filmmakers Lab and as a member of the Sundance Film Festival Advisory Committee. 

Dixie Forum is a lecture series designed to introduce the St. George community and DSU students, faculty and staff to diverse ideas and personalities while widening their worldviews via a 50-minute presentation. The weekly series will continue its 2015 spring semester lineup on Tuesday, Jan. 27, when Bob Ford presents “Saving Nature, Including Great Apes, in Central Africa: A Conservationist’s Personal Story.” This lecture will be held at the Dunford Auditorium in the Browning Resource Center on the DSU campus.
