DSU Theatre invites you to experience a once-in-a-lifetime performance! Produced and directed by DSU theatre students and advised by Michael Harding, this play is sure to move you. The show plays Nov. 6-8 and 11-15 in the Eccles Fine Arts Center Black Box Theatre. This play is rated PG-13, and does include mature content and subject matter that may be offensive to some audiences.

In the standard theatre model, a single playwright writes the text and then a director casts actors and selects designers to interpret that text, resulting in a traditional theatre production. With devised theatre, however, the collective artists begin without a script. They might even decide to liberate themselves by surrendering their traditional, specialized theatrical roles of actors, designers, playwrights, or directors and start as theatre generalists (or cross-trainers) with an idea, a hunch, that takes them into a studio space to investigate collaboratively — to unpack that hunch. A devised piece of theatre can literally start with anything: A painting, a song, a real-life event, or a novel to adapt.

“I’m excited for the creativity… We are molding something out of nothing. Pure creativity is the material,” said DSU student Sean Bronsema, one of the collaborators of the piece.

“My biggest worry was that the students wouldn’t take full advantage of it,” Harding said. “The students have made that fear quickly fade.”

In this particular devised piece, the theme can be narrowed down to a single word: “Perfection.” What is perfection? What is our view of it? Are we ever truly capable of achieving it? These are all questions that audience members will ponder as they watch this production.

The piece will truly touch everyone who comes to see it. Don’t miss out on an original piece of theatre that will keep you coming back! You will never see the same performance twice. The play is sure to leave you in awe.

Admission costs $10 or $5 for all WSCD high school students and employees, or groups of 15 or more. All productions start promptly at 7:30 p.m. (house opens at 7 p.m.) For tickets and detailed information, call the DSU box office at (435) 652-7800 or visit www.dixieculturalarts.com.
