On May 21, the Equality Utah Celebration will return to the Dixie Convention Center for an evening of entertainment and inspiration for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) individuals and their families and allies.
The evening event will feature celebrity impersonator Jason CoZmo as well as prize drawings, a red carpet, and a silent auction featuring works of prominent local artists.
Two Equality Awards will be presented at the event. These awards are for two individuals who have lifted up voices of LGBTQ Utahns: Susan Ertel, an associate professor at Dixie State University and a proponent and ambassador of LGBTQ rights for students on campus, and Matthew Jacobson, a local journalist who shared his personal story with the St. George City Council for the proposed St. George anti-discrimination ordinance.
“I am looking forward to honoring our incredible awardees, Susan and Matthew,” said event coordinator Linda Stay. “We have an incredible and beautiful LGBTQ community in southern Utah. We must remember that the work toward full legal equality is far from over and we must stay the course! This will be a night to remember.”
Tickets are available online or by calling (801) 355-3479. Tickets are $100. Sponsorship opportunities for businesses are available as well. Volunteer opportunities and more information are available by calling Stay at (435) 674-0994 or linda@equalityutah.org.
Proceeds from the event fund Equality Utah’s 501(c)(3) organization, which educates and trains Utahns in all corners of the state about the political process and related LGBTQ issues. Equality Utah is the state’s largest policy and advocacy organization working to secure equal rights and protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer Utahns and their families.
