Tucked within the red rock wonderland of Snow Canyon State Park, Johnson Canyon is a seasonal treasure—and for a limited time, guided hikes are offering the public a chance to explore this protected area with an expert ranger by your side.

On Friday, May 30 from 3 PM to 5 PM, join park staff for a guided hike into Johnson Canyon, which is otherwise closed for much of the year to protect its delicate natural and cultural resources. This two-mile round-trip hike offers an up-close look at Snow Canyon’s unique geology, flora, and rich human history.

Along the way, rangers will share insights about the area’s volcanic past, native plant life, and the ecological significance of this hidden canyon. It’s the perfect mix of education, light exercise, and scenic reward.

Advance registration is required and opens two days before the event. You can register in person or by phone through the Snow Canyon State Park Visitor Center.

Because access to Johnson Canyon is so limited, this guided hike offers a rare opportunity for both locals and visitors to experience a lesser-known side of the park in a meaningful, respectful way.
