*Update: The man, identified as 71-year-old Jimmie Hilton of Las Vegas, was involved in what appears to be an accidental drowning at this time.
Fatality reported at Sand Hollow State Park
On June 13 at approximately 5 p.m., the Washington County Sheriiff’s Office dispatch reported an accident involving a single male at the dock at the main boat ramp at Sand Hollow State Park. Utah State Park personnel responded and found an unresponsive 71-year-old adult male from Clark County, Nevada.
The individual involved in the apparent drowning stepped from the dock to an awaiting boat, missed the boat, and slipped into the water. Witnesses reported that the individual attempted to keep his head above water but was unable to. Witnesses retrieved the unresponsive individual from the water and performed CPR until park and medical personnel arrived and additional advanced life support measures were performed.
Medical efforts to revive the individual were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s name has not been released pending family notification.
