– By Cami Cox –

Among upcoming DOCUTAH International Film Festival events taking place in St. George, some renowned guests will be present on Feb. 28 and March 1.
On Friday, Feb. 28, actress and original supermodel Kim Alexis will be the featured guest speaker at DOCTalks, which are in-depth film discussions offered as part of the annual documentary film festival. Alexis appears in the documentary film “Beyond the Gaze: Jule Campbell’s Swimsuit Issue,” which is among feature films being showcased at this year’s festival. The documentary explores the legacy of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. “Beyond the Gaze” will be screened at 4:30 PM on Feb. 28, and Alexis’ DOCTalk will take place at 8:30 PM. Both events will be held at the Megaplex Theatres at Sunset, located at 1091 N. Bluff St. in St. George. DOCTalks admission is free. Film tickets can be purchased online.
On March 1, Olympic champion Edwin Moses will be honored with the DOCUTAH Trailblazer Award, which is a distinctive honor given in recognition of the recipient’s societal contributions. A two-time gold medalist in the 400-meter hurdles, Moses is featured in the biopic “Moses: 13 Steps.” A screening of the film will take place at 6 PM, followed by a Q&A. The DOCUTAH awards ceremony, at which Moses and other award recipients will be honored, will be held at 8 PM that evening. These events will also take place at the Megaplex Theatres at Sunset.

Additionally, appearing at the DOCUTAH awards ceremony as a musical guest will be singer, songwriter, and actor Philip Labes. Labes gained renown when his song “A TV Show Called Earth” went viral during the COVID-19 pandemic. This led to an invitation for Labes to join artist Jason Mraz on his North American tour. Labes’ story is featured in “The Opener,” a documentary film chronicling his journey from street performer to touring artist. A screening of “The Opener” will take place on Feb. 28 at 1:30 PM.
