After another successful event on Friday, Aug. 7, it would seem clear that the monthly George Streetfest in downtown St. George is only going to get bigger and better. And it would also appear that Mother Nature has been recruited to be on the planning committee. For the third time in as many events, the rain deluged the downtown streets previous to the event and threatening with a cancellation, but so far, the rain has only served to bring temperatures to more bearable levels, clearing out in time for the downtown party. Event planners have taken to calling the rain the “George Organic Cooling System.”

An estimated 5000 attendees enjoyed the third George Streetfest, with children and adults alike playing on the closed downtown streets. Booths offering goods, services, and activities packed Main Street. Kids found multiple booths to entertain them on Tabernacle. Those who partake in the spirits enjoyed the Jazz Garden in the courtyard of Ancestor Square where tasty food, drink, friends, and music were in abundance. This month offered a special treat with the St. George Wine Club providing a little education with “Vino 101.”

In addition to booths, food, friends, and drink, George Streetfest continues offering solid sounds for music lovers. Mami Hope Dalton performed with the West Coast Jazz in the Jazz Garden demonstrating exceptionally rare talent. The mainstage offered live music, with St. George’s own BrickWalker opening the show. Quiet Oaks from Salt Lake followed, and Holy Water Buffalo out of Heber City was the event headliner. While Holy Water Buffalo wrapped up music on Main Street, the music continued following the event with Dick Earl bringing his soulful blues to George’s Corner.

Downtown St. George will again transform into George Streetfest on Sept. 4 from 6-10 pm. George Streetfest will be going a little bit country for the September event in support of the St. George Lion’s Dixie Roundup.
