Utah Gov. Gary Herbert visited the operations center in Colorado City on Saturday, Sept. 19, where he received a briefing on the impact last Monday’s devastating flash flood had on the people and the communities in the twin border towns of Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Ariz.
Gov. Herbert expressed his condolences to the families of the victims who were lost in the flash flood and the local, state, and regional responders and volunteers who have given their time and resources in the recovery effort.
Search conditions have been difficult for responders. Many have been going through debris piles in heavy brush, sometimes on their hands and knees, searching for the last remaining victim of the flood, 6-year-old Tyson Black. Sunday, Sept. 20, was a scheduled rest day to allow the crews and volunteers involved in the search to recover and prepare for a continuation of the search on Monday.
A previous boil water advisory for the Hildale-Colorado City water system has now been lifted. Anyone with questions about the quality of the drinking water is urged to contact the Hildale-Colorado City Water Department at (435) 874-1160 or the Utah Division of Drinking Water at (801) 536-4200.
Public Works Operations is continuing to work to remove the debris, mud, and sand from the roadways in the area and to clear the drinking water for use.
