The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for most of western Utah, including the southern reaches of the state surrounding Iron and Washington counties.
High winds and plummeting temperatures are expected across western Utah, increasing into the afternoon and evening with potential wind gusts reaching over 45 miles per hour.
Snow is expected at elevations above 6,000 feet in southern Utah today and overnight with the heaviest snowfalls expected to accumulate in areas above 8,000 feet. On Saturday, however, snowfalls may reach elevations as low as 4,000 feet.
Little to no snowfall is expected to fall in the lower parts of the Virgin River valley, however low-lying cities such as St. George, Hurricane, and Cedar City may see some rain on Friday and Saturday.
Motorists traveling on 1-15 overnight should exercise care this evening, especially at higher elevations. Please remember that four-wheel-drive does not help you to stop suddenly on icy roads.
