Historic St. George Tabernacle Reopens Today, December 1st, 2024

With an amazing schedule of events, sure to warm the hearts of all who enter during the holidays, the Historic St. George Tabernacle is slated to reopen for tours and events beginning December 1st, 2024, following an eight-month closure for needed renovations.

The St. George Tabernacle, with its distinctive architecture and rich history, has been a focal point for cultural, religious, and community events for over a century.

Constructed in the mid-19th century, it stands as a testament to the sacrifice of early pioneers and the enduring spirit of our community. To address issues surrounding the normal wear and tear of the tabernacle since its last renovation and to preserve this historic gem for future generations, reconstruction and maintenance efforts included:

  • Interior Refurbishment: The Tabernacle’s interior received attention, including painting, restoration of original woodwork, repair of carpeting, seating, etc.
  • Roof Repairs: Leaks and weather damage were repaired to safeguard the interior.
  • Stairs, entries, and exits: Modernizing essential access enhanced safety and functionality.

According to President Thomas Nead, Southwest Utah Historical Sites Mission leader, “We could not be more excited! We recognize the Tabernacle as a community gem and realize its closure has been an inconvenience for more than a few. We thank you for your understanding over these past eight months. We invite all to come join us on an historic tour in what the pioneers termed this “Jewel of the Desert.” We also encourage guests to take full advantage of the free and fabulous events showcased in this extraordinary edifice. The end-of-year holidays will especially be full and rewarding with twenty events slated between December 2nd – 22nd.”

Please find below the Tabernacle events scheduled for December. Printed copies of these schedules are also available at the St. George Tabernacle. If you wish to schedule an event in the Tabernacle, contact Sister Pamela Nead, Southwest Historic Sites Mission, 206-437-2976.
