Three new hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) centers are now open in Kanab, St. George, and Cedar City, offering Southern Utah residents and visitors easier access to a powerful healing modality. These medical-grade facilities provide a non-invasive treatment that delivers pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber to enhance the body’s natural healing process.

HBOT has gained traction in recent years for its ability to reduce inflammation, reverse low-oxygen states, improve mitochondrial function, and fight infection. It’s particularly beneficial for conditions ranging from autoimmune diseases and concussions to athletic injuries. Professional athletes use hyperbaric therapy for faster recovery and improved performance—something Josh and SheriDawn Neilson, owners of Cedar City Hyperbarics, experienced firsthand.

Last fall, their teenage son, Tracen, suffered a broken ankle during a high school football game. Determined to support his recovery, SheriDawn—a flight nurse—explored hyperbaric therapy and began driving him several times a week to Hope Hyperbarics in Kanab. Over several months, Tracen’s recovery exceeded expectations. Inspired by these results, the Neilsons decided to make this therapy more accessible by opening a clinic in Cedar City.

“I saw firsthand how much of a difference hyperbaric therapy made for my son,” said SheriDawn. “I wanted to make sure others here in Southern Utah didn’t have to travel far to get the same benefits. I’m so excited to offer this option to people who want to heal faster and improve their health.”

All three centers operate under the medical direction of Chris Andrew, NP, a functional medicine practitioner. Treatments are administered by certified staff in steel-wall, FDA-cleared chambers made in the USA and approved by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Pressure Vessels for Human Occupancy—the same standards applied to submarines.

“Our hope in opening these clinics is to help people reach their health and wellness goals through hyperbaric oxygen therapy,” said Chris. “Having witnessed its incredible effects, I’m confident that HBOT can provide real benefits to our Southern Utah community because it is such a natural, safe, and effective therapy.”
