I-15 still closed between St. George and Las Vegas; officials hope for partial reopening on Friday
Written by Jeremy Crawford
Road conditions on I-15 remain the same as crews are working quickly to repair a section near Logandale, Nev. that was washed out during heavy flooding on Monday, effectively halting traffic between St. George and Las Vegas. Julie Duewel, public information officer for the Nevada Department of Transportation, said that the goal is to have at least one lane in either direction open Friday.
Officials are not yet certain if commercial vehicles, due to their weight, will be allowed on I-15 once it re-opens; they need to look at the road as it is repaired and the extent of damage that remains.
In the meantime, travelers can take the alternate route. I-15 is open southbound until Exit 93 in Logandale. From there, drivers must take state Route 169, pass through Overton, and then turn onto the Valley of Fire Highway. Drivers will then be taken to the Paiute reservation, where they can continue on to Las Vegas. The average travel time in either direction has been reported at around 2.5 hours. No commercial vehicles are allowed on this route; they must take the U.S. 93 detour through Panaca.
