Because Animals Matter
Because Animals Matter is dedicated to reducing animal abuse and neglect through education. It offers fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped animals for adoption through a network of foster homes and the Because Animals Matter Center, a transition facility. It also welcomes volunteers for a variety of activities and needs foster families for animals awaiting their forever homes. Bindi
Bindi is a border collie blend believed to be around two years old. She spent one night in a foster home after being pulled from the shelter to come to us. The foster parent wrote: “She loved my little boy and loves to explore the house. She did well in the crate last night and did pretty well with my dogs. She takes treats nicely and, surprisingly, she is very confident. I bet she’d make an amazing agility dog. She is very loving with people but seems to want to do her own thing around other dogs and doesn’t seem playful with them. I hope she finds a great home!” Bindi is a typical herding dog and will require an owner with experience. She is not good for a first-time pet owner. Lexi
Lexi is a 5-year-old blue nose pit with a sad story. She was dumped out of a car and left in Las Vegas. Through her microchip, she was traced to an elderly gentleman who had Lexi for the first few years of her life but had to move to assisted living and re-homed her. Information on her stops at that point until she was dumped out of the car. She is good with cats and kids. She needs work on leash training and staying around when not on a leash (she thinks you’re playing when she runs off). Other than that, she is an absolute peach. She is a complete snuggle bug that loves belly rubs and gives the best kisses with her giant tongue! She is so easy to love and has tons of love to give. A very friendly dog, she gets along with everybody. She’s been good with other dogs when the other dogs are somewhat calm. She hasn’t shown signs of aggression but gets too energetic when other dogs do and she doesn’t realize how big she is. She has arthritis and has mild skin allergies. Rex
Rex is a handsome guy who is still finding his confidence. He is approximately one year old, he is sweet and has a fair amount of puppy energy so will need regular exercise. He is just starting his training of walking on a leash and getting into a crate. He is so loving, and consistent guidance will help him grow into the wonderful adult dog he has within him. He hasn’t learned how to play with a ball or other toy yet but is good with people and plays well with other dogs of all sizes. Rex’s adoption fee is $125.
Sabrina
After being hit by a car, little Sabrina spent 8 weeks in a cast while her bones healed. She’s 10 years old but loves to adventure by car, trail, or river. Snuggles are her favorite, but she’s not a couch potato. Sabrina lives with several big dogs and enjoys their company. Never once have they heard her bark. Sabrina would be great in any home but, even with her cast off, she will still need tender care until her bones are strong. Sabrina does require daily medication for an enlarged heart but nothing stops this little dog from living life to its fullest. They are still working on house training, but the process is slow due to her broken bones. Sabrina sleeps through the night without urinating and does not urinate on the carpet but will on tile. Turbo and Freckles
They were told that Turbo is a 2-year-old Cavalier King Charles spaniel/ shih tzu blend; Freckles is a 2-year-old Chihuahua/Yorkshire terrier blend. Both dogs are neutered, and they are a bonded pair. They can only be placed together and only with someone who agrees to keep them together in the future. These are the sweetest two little dogs ever! They are both cuddlers and love to give and receive attention. They like walks, going in the car, or being in the back yard or house with you. They do well with other dogs. They would do best with older, respectful children (age 8 and over). Turbo, as you can see is very overweight. He is on a diet and is exercising daily and won’t be available for adoption until his weight drops a bit. Any potential adopter must be willing to follow through with a weight loss regime for him. Freckles is a little overweight but not as severely as Turbo is. The adoption fee is $250 for the pair.

Fred
This is one fun loving pup. He is always happy, willing to learn, and wants to please. This cuddly hound mix is as smart as can be and will make an excellent hiker, running buddy or the perfect family pet. His adoption fee is $200.
Finley
Finley is a 1 ½-year-old Lab/Border Collie mix. He is smart and enjoys learning, he likes to play and is good with children and has lived with cats and other dogs. He loves to be with his humans and just wants to be part of the family. His adoption fee is $125.
Hera
Hera is very sweet and is approximately 3 years old. She is a very clean cat who is litterbox trained. Hera gets along with other cats and is playful and loving. She also loves to nap in the sun. You need to meet this wonderful cat! Her adoption fee is $75.
Sophia
Sophia is a 2-year-old tabby. This sweet girl does best with other cats in her presence. All the boys have eyes for this doll. She loves to play, and once she claims you as her human, you’re all hers. Her big green eyes are stunning. This girl deserves her own home and family. Stop in and meet Sophia and see for yourself how special she is. Her adoption fee is $65.
Lizzy
Lizzy is a darling. Give her a cuddle and you will win her over. She prefers to be the one and only cat. Her adoption fee is $65.
Best Friends Animal Sanctuary
Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is located five miles north of Kanab at 5001 Angel Canyon Road. All adoptable cats and dogs are spayed or neutered and up to date on vaccinations. Kimbra
It’s easy to fall in love with Kimbra. Whether she’s in her room at the sanctuary or working her charm at Dogtown headquarters, you can usually find a person loving on her. In fact, she’s so charming that she often convinces staff and volunteers to carry her on her walks instead of actually walking (and she’s definitely not a small dog). Kimbra seems to love everybody and everything. She makes friends with every new dog and person she meets at the sanctuary, and she just radiates joy. Born in 2016, Kimbra came to the sanctuary from a Best Friends Network Partner in Texas. She has tested positive for heartworm disease and will be starting treatment at the sanctuary. She’s done well with all dogs she’s met at Dogtown and is working on her basic manners, including greeting people with all four feet on the floor. Instead of jumping up, her caregivers are teaching her to hug on cue. What could be more adorable?
Lotti
Lotti is one happy, energetic girl. Born in 2012, she loves running around with her toys and swimming in her pool. Lotti came to Best Friends from the animal welfare department of New Mexico. She can be a bit picky and in your face with her dog friends, so she’ll need a home where she can either be the only dog or have a tolerant canine companion. Super smart and people-loving, Lotti is ready to learn about life in a forever home. Lotti is currently on medication for environmental allergies. Lotti has a generous sponsor who will pay for her adoption costs.
McDreamy
Handsome, charming McDreamy fits his name wonderfully. He had very little socialization before he was rescued and came to Best Friends, so he’s still shy and fearful with people, and he can be startled easily. But being the awesome, smart guy he is, McDreamy has been learning the ropes very quickly. In Dogtown, he is doing shy dog class and is walking with volunteers. He gets a lot of his confidence from his doggie friends, so he should go to a home where he’ll have a good canine role model. He loves to go on long walks and would enjoy regular trips to the dog park. When he’s extra excited about where he’s walking, he’ll start “talking” to you about his feelings, which is very endearing. McDreamy was born in 2013 and is so ready to learn and to grow. You can see in his irresistibly soulful brown eyes that he’s ready to take the plunge into a real home.
Kieran
Kieran is a shy gray-and-white cat who likes to hang out in the outdoor cattery. He was approximately 9 when he arrived in 2013 from Illinois. When he first got to Cat World, Kieran played hide and seek in the rafters, darting to and fro, up and down. He liked to hear his name called, though, and he would meow back. Now that he’s gotten more comfortable here, he will cautiously approach people for their attention and to receive pets. He loves treats! He does well living with other cats and is fine with dogs. He’s looking for that special someone who will help him blossom even further.
Linda
Linda is initially shy, but if you approach her slowly and earn her trust, she will enjoy interacting with you. Born in 2013, Linda came from a community cat program in New Mexico. She tests positive for Feline Leukemia (FeLV), so she’ll need to live with other FeLV cats, or be an only kitty. She’d be fine either way because she can take or leave other cats. She’s a sweet girl who is very laid back. If you have just a little bit of patience, Linda’s ready to go home with you.
Miranda
The beautiful Siamese girl with blue eyes will chirp and follow you around. She loves food and treats! She’s very social and enjoys attention but she’s not needy. She enjoys the company of people but is also fine by herself. Miranda has been attacked by other cats before, so she can be very skittish around them. She was born in 2013 and came from a shelter in Utah. She’s a very sweet and gentle cat. She’d make a great addition to a home where she felt safe.
RSQ DOGS+
RSQ DOGS+ is southern Utah’s newest nonprofit animal rescue group. It is an all-volunteer group dedicated to saving the lives of animals in underserved, rural areas of Washington County. All of the animals in its care are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchip, and any medical care they may need. Mac
My name is Mac! I am a young dog, just under two years old and very loving. I am a sweet, 32-pound ball of fun who just wants to find a new home. I love people and dogs and would be so happy to go to a new home with other dogs or kids to play with. I do need a yard with a tall, unclimbable fence to play in, but I would be so happy to be part of your new family. Will you give me a chance?
Izzy
My name is Isabella, but you can call me Izzy. I am a 15-pound rat terrier mix with a ton of character. My first owner couldn’t properly take care of me anymore, so RSQ Dogs+ took me in and is helping me find a new home. I am an excellent couch friend but would love to go for walks to the park. I’m currently living with two other dogs and would be happy if my new friends had a dog or two for me to hang out with. Can I come home with you?
Adeline
Although some people call me “Little Red,” my real name is Adeline. I am an 18 month old, 31-pound red heeler mix who is ready for adventure. I grew up on a ranch, but I caused havoc with some of the smaller animals, so RSQ Dogs+ took me in until a better home comes along. I am excellent with other dogs and I love little people, they play nearly as much as I do! I am cautious of new people but warm up quickly; will you give me a chance to get to know you?
Phoebe
Phoebe is as sweet as she looks. She would love a quiet home where she can sit in someone’s lap. They don’t know all that she has been through, but they do know that she ended up in a high-kill shelter with her brother. And sadly, he passed away before getting to rescue. Phoebe is currently only 5 pounds. She needs a home where she can feel safe and start working toward a healthy weight.
Milkshake
RSQ DOGS+’s adorable biggest loser, MilkShake is still looking for the perfect home! MilkShake came to them weighing in at 32 pounds and could hardly even walk! He is now down to 26 pounds and feeling much healthier. He even plays now. MilkShake is the boss. He would be fine as the only cat in the home but could adjust to another friendly cat. No dogs please.
The City of Mesquite Animal Shelter
The City of Mesquite Animal Shelter is located at 795 Hardy Way and is open for adoptions Mondays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m. Please call (702) 346-7415 during these hours to speak to the front desk, or visit mesquiteanimalshelter.petfinder.com. Animal Control may be reached by phone or voicemail at (702) 346-5268. Adoption fees include spaying or neutering and a one-year rabies shot. Mesquite residents only receive one-year city pet licenses.
Pippin
Pippin was found as a stray. He is shy but wants attention. He is unsure of what is going on in his life right now. He would love someone that he can love and trust. His adoption fee is $60.
Mattie, Houdini, Arlo, Sylvester, and Figario
The kittens were found as strays. They can be adopted but cannot leave the shelter until they are old enough to be altered. They are easily handled and love to play. The mother was feline leukemia virus negative. The kittens will receive their first vaccinations this week. Their adoption fees are $40.
Mr. Whiskers
Oh, what a wonderful cat. Mr. Whiskers’s family moved and could not take him with them. He is 8 years young. He is very friendly and loves attention and being petted and held. They were told he likes other cats and at the shelter; he just ignores the other cats and just goes about his own way. He comes when called. His adoption fee is $40.
Murphy
Murphy was found as a stray. It is obvious that he was someone’s cat as he is super friendly, follows you about the room, comes when called, and loves attention and being with people. He is quite talkative. He was well cared for and has a shiny, smooth coat. He is a large cat. His adoption fee is $40.
Mia
Mia’s owner moved and could not take her with him. She is 7 years young and declawed. Mia is in need of a diet and exercise plan. She is shy due to the change in her living arrangements, but she is calm and easily handled. She would make a good companion for someone wanting a couch potato to keep them company. Her adoption fee is $40.
Paris
Paris came to the shelter when her owner could no longer keep her and brought her to the shelter. She is approximately 4–5 years old. Paris never stops purring, loves to be petted, and is easily handled. She loves looking out the windows and napping where she can keep an eye on everyone. While at the shelter, it was discovered that Paris has a chronic medical condition. She is on a special diet and will need to be on this diet for the rest of her life.
