Skya
Skya‘s a shy girl who needs time to get comfortable around people. But once she comes out of her shell, she is very loving and affectionate. She also has a delightfully silly, playful side. She starts bouncing around when she sees a human friend, and she loves to play and wrestle with other dogs. Born in 2014, Skya came to Best Friends from another rescue organization. She may never have had a home of her own, but she will blossom with time and patience. This dog is featured as part of our BLISS (Behavior Lifelong In-home Support System) Program. Through this program, you will receive pre- and post-adoption training advice from one of our behavior consultants as well as a training plan specifically tailored to the dog’s transition into your home. As an added bonus, this dog’s adoption fee is waived, and if a flight home is needed, that’s free as well!
Turner
Turner‘s the kind of dog who loves to snuggle on the couch after a long walk. He is social with other dogs at the sanctuary, and he has experience at the dog park from a previous home. Born in 2011, Turner has good recall skills. He is also great in a car and is housebroken. In his previous home, he did nip at people’s ankles, and at Dogtown he is working with his caregivers and trainers on reducing barrier reactivity and walking nicely on a leash. He’d love an active home with a person or family who would continue his training.
Squish
Shortly after Squish came to Best Friends from a shelter in New Mexico, she gave birth to eight puppies. Though she was practically a baby herself (born in 2017) Squish was a great mom. She’s been through a lot, but you’d never know it. She’s outgoing and very friendly but also sweet, calm, and gentle. Squish walks with perfect manners on a leash, and Dogtown caregivers and volunteers alike love cuddling with her. Squish is currently being treated for heartworm disease and will need to finish treatment at the sanctuary unless an adopter is willing to take that on at home. She’s done well with all the dogs she’s met at the sanctuary and is learning basic training cues. This sweet girl will be a wonderful addition to almost any household.
Ufro
Ufro is a bit cautious with people he doesn’t know, but he warms up quickly. He greets people he knows and enjoys being petted. He seems fine with other cats. Born in 2015, he came from a shelter in California. Ufro demands attention and a clean litter box. If his demands are not fulfilled, he will urinate outside of the box. We suspect he suffers from Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease. Ufro is a great guy who’s just looking for someone who can meet his demands.
Thurston
Thurston somehow wandered into a humane trap that was set for another stray cat. Or was it on purpose? We’ll never know! He’s a shy fellow, but he seems to be glad for a nice place to stay and good meals. Born in 2011, Thurston’s personality is mostly relaxed. He’s standoffish with people right now, but he likes other cats. And people can pet him if they’re patient. He would be so grateful for a permanent and loving place to welcome him.
Salsa
Need company for your cats? Then please adopt Salsa! Salsa is a shy cat who spends her time hanging out with feline friends. She’s great with other cats, but people scare her. Whenever somebody comes near, Salsa hides so you can’t get close enough to pet her. She came to the sanctuary from a Nevada shelter that couldn’t find a home for such a shy cat. Born in 2005, Salsa is in good health. She’s probably never had a real home. And she’ll never be a lap cat. But if Salsa is lucky enough to find a home with other cats, she promises to be a dear friend to them and to be forever grateful for the compassion of a good home.
