A year-long investigation into Iron County Justice Court employees has come to a close with no charges.
In a letter addressed to Iron County Attorney Scott Garrett and Garfield County Attorney Barry Huntington, Gregory Ferbrache, Attorney General Justice Division director, states the AG’s office declines to investigate this case further and will close their file.
“Based on the information provided,” the letter states, “a group of Assistant Attorney Generals, including the Special Prosecutions Section Director, screened the case and concluded that based on the evidence gathered, there is not a reasonable likelihood of conviction at trial.”
Garrett said one employee was placed on administrative leave; however, there were several employees under investigation. The employee placed on leave has since resigned; nevertheless, none of the suspected persons will face charges.
The case began in late 2014 when Parowan police Chief Ken Carpenter began his initial investigation.
